Factory or aftermarket trailer wiring?

I’ve poked around a bit and haven’t really been able to come to a conclusion. The G I’m purchasing does not have the factory tow package. Dealer is quoting $1600 for parts and said they would do the computer stuff after I install it.

Question is, regardless of price, would you prefer the factory equipment added after the fact or install an aftermarket option such as the off-road gear guys kit?

I’ve heard of some of the gremlins with the factory unit and wonder if an aftermarket would simplify/solve these problems.

Im not aware of an aftermarket wiring harness.
If your dealer quoted you 1600 bucks jump on that. For 1, how much cheaper do you think the aftermarket would be, and 2, my dealer quoted me 6k.

Go aftermarket. The factory retrofit is expensive and still has the same potential issues. A good aftermarket kit like ORGG is simpler, more robust, and designed to work perfectly without the factory system's gremlins. You'll get a better, more reliable tow hitch for less money.

Does your vehicle have the manufacturer's warranty? If yes, buy the Ineos OE solution, because your warranty will be toast if you go aftermarket.
In Europe we have to go with the Ineos solution as there is no other compliant solution.

I asked my local service centre (just service, not a Ineos dealer), and they said the same. They will fit 3rd party metalwork, but the wiring harness is from Ineos.

Having done similar on other cars, wiring the lights is easy, but overcoming things like parking sensors is harder...
