Rear Cargo Shelf Options

Hi,

Has anyone come across great cargo shelf options that sit at the window line of the trunk? I’m looking for something that will act as both a cargo shelf and good way to hide what’s in the trunk.

Diabolical has a shelf option, but it looks like it sits higher than the window line. Either a fixed or slide out shelf, sitting at the window line or slightly below that connects via the four trunk mounting hooks would be amazing.

That shelf looks very similar to the one that Buzz Overland produce, but that won’t be any help to you either.

I remember that a member here had made there own and posted pics of it but that was around Aug/Sept last year, god only knows what thread it was on as well.

I seem to remember they had used a stretchy material, a sort of cargo net type scenario.

Not sure if I am right but @Jean Mercier might have been the culprit tbh

I remember that a member here had made there own and posted pics of it but that was around Aug/Sept last year, god only knows what thread it was on as well.

It just came to me in a moment of clarity !!

I still don’t know of any company doing a commercial available product though. Looking at the JLR current version on a defender, I am sure something could be repurposed quite easily though.

I saw the DIY work that @Jean Mercier cleverly put together. I was thinking a W463/G500 trunk screen could be retrofitted, but thought this would be a solution that would add both storage and privacy.

Other option would just be buying a drawer unit and using that to store stuff that needs to be hidden.

I just looked at the Buzz option. It looks like it’s adjustable up to 75mm. That may be the winner here.

I've been looking for a similar thing. I don't need $2000 worth of fancy drawers and other stuff. I just want a solid midshelf that acts as a cargo cover as well as a shelf. I'm surprised there isn't something out there already. I think I have an idea on how to build it rather easily. It can mount the tie-down loop spots on each side of the cargo area. Basically make an aluminum frame with aluminum square bar or angle that you can buy from Home Depot or Lowe's. Rivet it together and find some spacers and longer bolts to mount into the tie-down threaded holes each side and slap a piece of 1/4" plywood with some bed rug on it. I even have an idea to make it relatively easy to remove when needed. If I ever get time I will try and work on it.

I have built similar simple decks in the backs of my former Isuzu Troopers, Ford Exploder, and Suburbans prior to upgrading to Truck Vault Drawers in my Suburbans, Land Cruisers and now coming for my new Grenadier.
Being an old carpenter: I go with wood materials.
I found that a sheet of 3/4” sanded plywood works best and cut to fit the top deck surface and then using the cut offs to be cut to fit for height along each side and across the box to form an inverted box with three closed sides and one open. I then use a short piece say about a foot long to be placed in the center into box to provide a center support if needed. I doubt it for this truck. I then got and cut to fit a piece of rubber mating or indoor outdoor carpet on top of the new deck to match the interior. Then it looks like the truck floor. It has worked great for me for many years.
