Largest Functional Tire Without Mods

So I’m still on the original KO2’s with the 17” steelies. I did some green laning in July and did a one day Blue lane this past weekend in VT. I have 72k miles on the tires and while on the Class IV roads in VT last weekend the Grenny performed admirably. Had some slippage on ledge but it had been raining all day.

Looking at possibly swapping out the kO2’s to mickey Thompson Baja Boss 285/70/r17/ >90% of my future driving will still be tarmac but hoping to do some more off-roading.

I have no lift and have not adjusted the steering dampers…Anyone else have any suggestions?
LOL, on Saturday at the Overland meetup in Williston VT I saw a Video of the you getting over that ledge. It was taking by Jim in the GX460.. BTW, I have the KO3s in 285/75 r17 with no suspension mods but I haven't done any really challenging with it yet..

Well after 9200 miles on the Grenadier it was time for new wheels and tires. I was never a fan of the 18" alloys with the Fieldmaster and really did not care for the KO2s. When a few of us took a week to do some wheeling in the Salida Colorado area I managed to chunk one of the sidewalls down to the cordage and put the spare on. That went great but had another tire on the same week long trip get another gash in the sidewall....still working tire but was in the mkt for new stuff anyway so this gave me an excuse to put on the new wheel/tire combo.

I elected to go with Method 701 wheels in Matte Black (17x7.5 | 6x130 | 50/6.20") with Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT 255/85R17 tires. I have to give a shout out to @DaneJa and @Brad@SuperiorCO! Having seen theirs when we did the Owl Skid Plates I was very impressed. I dont think the pics them justice as they look much better IMO in real life!

I have driven them around for about 20 miles on the roads here near my house and could not get them to rub. Dane has been running a VERY similar setup the only difference is he went with the Method 703s and has zero complaints with them.

I have to pick up some washers for the spare tire location to offset them slightly to open the rear door as others have done. Should be complete tomorrow morning!

So here are some Pics I took from the afternoon....hope you all like them!

Looks great. The optimal tire for the Grenadier, no contest.

While at the Grenadier dealer to order some parts I ran across this setup while looking around at other vehicles to get some upgrade ideas. Black Rhino "Yellowstone" wheels in an 18" fitment with BFGoodrich Mud Terrains by the looks of it. Proportions look good and some extra sidewall height over my stock 18" wheels is nice bonus. Certainly giving me something to think about compared to 17" options I been considering and the BR's offset for this wheel is listed at +48 which is good as I'd like to stay as close to the stock wheels specification as possible.
