Third party sealed snorkels for the IG and QM

Tyler and the like have used the most effective and cost efficient aftermarket parts available. For well known brands, in Australia these are easy to come by. Plus, he has learnt from the misfortune of others, and sometimes himself.
Blow an engine in Tasmania? No worries, tow him out, get on the grapevine and old mate will find you a new used one. And install it for a couple of beers.
Not going to happen with a Grenadier, so we are cautious.

I have the OEM RAI in pieces. It is not sealed in any meaningful way. Air would have gone to the air filter from many of the joints, the airbiox and the main opening.

When the new sealed snorkel was fitted I could hear the induction noise at the opening because much of the air was now entering that way. The old OEM was quieter, because it was getting air from multimple places.

I assume these are the main components of the RAI. I don’t see how one would ever seal this adequately.

GrenX sealed snorkels in short supply
If you are interested in a GrenX sealed snorkel, get in quick. The teardrop snorkel is already sold out, the ram head style and the OEM style are in short supply.

There will be a lead time once the current inventory is sold out, as they are made in batches.

Lots of interest since the now deleted Canny video, because of how easy it is to go over the 800mm max wading depth in places like Cape York.

Copying my response to @LazarusTheGrenny concerning recommended pod filters for the petrol airbox variant into this thread -

@KristinaM no part number on the filter that came in the petrol B58 snorkel/airbox kit. Not sure if it’s manufactured by Uni-Filter but it’s not foam, rather looks to be oiled cotton gauze, akin to a K&N. Seems to be of high quality.

Interesting. I’m still trying to identify why the UniFilter Australia CP1 85/140 pod filter isn’t compatible with the petrol variant of this airbox. According to Canna Fabrication it should be. :-) I assume Rohan doesn’t ship the airbox with an adapter for a 85mm input?

The UniFilter Australia CP1 85/140 filter has an 85mm flange, 140mm length, and 115mm O.D

GrenX filters for the sealed airbox
Rohan confirmed to me this morning the 8 ply "paper" filter is for most use cases, like on road and dusty conditions.

The thinner foam filter is for on road use, where an owner wants performance. It is not suitable for dusty conditions A performance tune is coming for the ECU.

Be careful, too many changes and the MAF sensor will give errors.

This is why GrenX had to tune the airbox for the diesel model.

There is one aribox for petrol models and another for the diesel. They are not interchangeable.

The sealed diesel airboxes are cut, they will be welded next week and then power coated. All on schedule to be posted before Christmas to diesel owners.
