Hi All,

When I bought my grenadier a couple of years ago it came with a Scorpion S5 tracker. Never thought much of it, over the last few months however the grenadier is failing to start unless I leave it in accessory mode for a 20 seconds or so. After speaking to an Ineos technician the likely cause of the issue is the tracker (they even said they would remove it for me).

Anyway to save a trek back to the dealers I thought I would attempt to remove myself. I had all the lower panels off and managed to locate it above the key barrel. Now here’s where I need help, I removed the barrel but I still can’t get access, as the dash frame is in the way. The only way I can see to logical access it is to remove the whole top of the dash which seems a bit insane?

My only other thought is that I may be able to remove the infotainment unit to access it that way. Has anybody ever removed the infotainment unit? I’ve had a quick look but can’t find any reference to any threads. My hope is with the removed I can get access to the right above the key barrel.

If all else fails, I’ll take it to the dealer to get it removed.

I've had that panel off before, all i remember was pulling it off after the lower and side screws are out the ones under the shiny black pcs. Also I had a tracker on another car and they must be lazy over here bc it was just attached at the battery. lol

Hi, I removed the gloss pieces and I’m able to pull the piece forwards thats above the steering wheel. Trouble is behind that is the dash frame so you still can’t get access.

I can’t for a minute think who ever installed the tracker had all the dash frame out, or took the whole top of the dash off. That’s why I was hoping that I could get access from above with the infotainment system removed.

Honestly I thought it would have been pretty easy to remove, it’s just getting at it!

AHHHh okay yeah I didn't remember that part when I had it off..... What about just unplugging the wires and calling it a day? Unplug wrap in tape.

I can't see an installer spending time stripping a lot of trim away. What about access via the steering column shroud and flexible closure?

I have a Scorpion S5 + fitted to my Grenadier.
You should definitely have called Scorpion for some advice. They are a highly rated outfit and I'm sure they would have been able to help out.
When they fitted mine, they were only here an hour or two and the only panels removed were those under the steering wheel.

I may do that, though I’m not really bothered about a tracker and it’s interfering with start up hence why I want to remove. I can see the unit it’s just about gaining access.

As @Cheshire cat says. Just phone Scorpion (I have an S5 fitted as well) they are very helpful. They can certainly disable it remotely.

In hindsight, after 2 years, I wonder if it is a subtle reminder from Scorpion 🦂 that the subscription has expired 🤔

I’ve got a S5 fitted at the dealers. I know where mines fitted, different from yours. Have you tried changing the batteries on the tracker fob and the keys first of all. Mines ok so far but I do wonder at times whether it’s worth renewing the subscription and also whether it is the cause of battery drain.

Removing the shiney black plastic trim will reveal screws to remove the textured black trim, that you circled. I suspect the tracker module will be just wedged in with either double sided tape or zip tie.

Thanks, that has just reminded me to change my tracker fob batteries, they have been in for 30 months. I ( we) also have my ( our) phone(s) programmed to act as a tracker fob, but to be honest I've never tried them. I suppose I should, just in case I need it.
The advantage of renewing the subscription ( I have a lifetime subscription, part of an earlier deal and ordered via NFU partnership with Scorpion) is the significant saving on the annual insurance premium.

I went for lifetime subscription, far cheaper especially as I don't intend selling
I had problems starting and it kept taking ages to start, stuck.as a service area, i rang Ineos and first question was, do you have a tracker. Turned out to be the battery in the fob needed changing. Thankfully it started when I was on the phone so I drove straight to a shop to get the battery.

Key fobs batteries in general are a pain. I just renew them all every 12 months regardless. In view of the cost of batteries it is easier just to replace them on a regular basis instead of waiting for a low warning light. And the warning light on the tracker fob is so small and insignificant you can't see it without a magnifying glass, pointless 😆

Yes some manufacturers make it a part of their service schedule.

I have the phone app which works very well however, you do have to open the app each time before you can start the vehicle. Not quite as seamless as using the fob.
The fob on my motorcycle is four years old and never changed the battery. Perhaps that is the reason that every time I ride it I receive a text and phone message that the bike has been moved. 🤔

A question for the S5 tracksters. Do you or are you supposed to carry the tracker fob separately from the car keys?🤔

I have it on my keys, not enough pockets.

Yes it is supposed to be separate from the keys, the theory being that if someone steals your keys from the house and used them without the fob it will alert Scorpion 🦂 and you will get the text and phone call. But I have it on my keys as well. I live very rural and remotely and the keys are kept in the house well away from my house doors, so unlikely to be sneak thieves stealing the keys ( I hope). Perhaps I should wear it round my neck on an Ineos lanyard 😆
