New Year Service Overdue Bug

I have been told by a dealer that the Y2K service overdue bug is going to be fixed “over the air” remotely by using the e-Call cellular unit to take incoming data to fix software patches remotely similarly to Tesla et al.

Is this the case? Has anyone else heard of this????
I thought the eCall system was operated by an outsourced call centre 📞 that also serves other manufacturers. I would find that unlikely since the Grenadier doesn't have OTA capability, ( but technically possible??? I doubt and what cost). I also thought the Tesla and the other " et als" had OTA capability and don't use the eCall system for data transfer

Hi from Italy. Yes heard this as well after some days from my service manager. I only cannot imagine how this should works. Plus some of us has some heating issues - my car is now heating like a Finnish Sauna where my Finnish fiend’s Grenadier does not heat at all after 1 January.

Don't think Aussie ones have e call.
Some of us don't even have dealers!
Ah well, no big deal.

So I recently reset the e-call fuse, a 5A fuse in the middle of the fuse box under the key. I pulled the fuse for 10 seconds and put it back in. Apparently this will reset the e-call system. It can be used as a two way service apparently. The outsource team that process the e-call function are only there for calls out but the same cellular system on board the car that calls out can also be used to receive data. ADS-C type of uplink coms.

I believe this is what the dealers have been told from the design team and how they are planning on remotely fixing the Y2K service overdue bug for those with the e-call function.

That's interesting to know,

There is an e-call EU Regulation that states (Art. 6): „8. The MSD sent by the 112-based eCall in-vehicle system shall include only the minimum information as referred to in the standard EN 15722:2011 ‘Intelligent transport systems — eSafety — eCall minimum set of data (MSD)’. No additional data shall be transmitted by the 112-based eCall in-vehicle system.“ Plus, most e-call systems are designed to handle only very small data sets, and are not capable of processing large volumes as typically required by vehicle software updates. Curious to find out! Mine was reset by the dealer yesterday.

To me the thought that the same software developers who gave us the NY bug in the first place are contemplating adapting the e-call system to apply the fix is worrying and unlikely to be successful.

I will be surprised if the fix is delivered OTA, but life is full of surprises.

As the previous thread, it would appear to be unlawful in EU and UK (who haven't repealed previous EU directives despite leaving the EU) anyway 🫠
