Interesting specifications for the current military spec G Wagen. The German army have just ordered 6,000 of them.

Straight 6 diesel 245hp
Solid axles all round
90 litre fuel tank
Auto transmission

A higher load rated pickup available

I'd ditch my Gren in a heartbeat for that.

The switchgear looks wonderful. IA missed temp control simplicity by a country mile.

Exterior looks far better than the pimped tarmac only versions. Also prefer the basic interior to the civilian version, a bit too old fashioned for sale to civilians but still better than what is on offer for the general public.

Gotta agree with @TD5-90 - the engine is better but that's pretty much it.
What is "better"? I love the inline six too, but we also have Diesel Exhaust Fluid (and with the military version we're talking about Diesel engines) which causes many problems, is a to be maintained technology and a source of sensor errors, wear and costs.

With the military version, which doesn't have all this crap, they're blatantly demonstrating that DEF-technology isn't reliable enough for their use. And that just goes to show that there are good reasons for a vehicle without all that green "we-know-better" technology.

From this perspective, I find the term “better engine” – apart from the wonderful six-cylinder characteristics – somewhat questionable. And I just read that the Wolf 2 engine is a 450 d. This engine delivers 249 hp and 600 Nm. A sisx cylinder too - although no inline six but 50Nm more.

So I'm not sure which engine is better.

Why? The key specs are obviously the same. The only big advantage is the Euro 3 emission standard. Which you won't have in a civilian version.
And honestly: The Grenadier looks _much_ better!

I can see the attraction of a brand new vehicle without any of these...

Airbags
EGR valve
DPF or catalytic converter
In car entertainment
Carplay
Nox sensors
ADAS, lane departure, stop start
TPMS
DRLs
Auto aircon, wipers, lights
Carpet
Heated/leather seats
Having to put your foot on the brake, press a button, touch your left ear with your right index finger and push a lever. to move into reverse
