So I've been doing a bit of electrical work that required using Deutsch connectors. I used the pack from agile off-road which worked great. In a pinch I needed some additional connectors both dt and dtp style. I went to Amazon...

I really can't recommend the jready brand of connectors, just not that great quality IMHO. The original brand connectors are far superior.

Just a fyi

What crimper are you using for the ‘solid barrel’ type DTP Connectors (my local shop could not work with them and so I had to source the ‘open barrel’ type that are much easier to use)?

I use this one

I use both iwd-12 (for the dtp connectors that agile ships this is perfect).
For dt which is a smaller connector often used on lightbars I use the iwd-16.

Both are really good quality and super easy to use.

Make sure you order the crimp style connector that requires the special crimping tool. The other style of connector is not great IMHO. Zoom in on the connector pin in this kit, this is best avoided

This style pin is used with the crimper.
This brand isn't very good though...

What did you not like about jready? I have a unopened box in the basement to use on the QM

The fit isn't that great. Compared to original it's just not the same level of quality. I have serious doubts that the jready actually will be ip68 water proof. I think these will degrade in real life fast.

I just ordered a bunch of connectors from this place

I'm going to replace the jready stuff I used this past weekend with the order I just pieces.
The dt is well priced, the dtp is about half of what the car shops charge. They say it's original kit.
Looks like an industrial fulfiller.

The kit builder is a great way of building a package.

I'll let you know how the quality is once I get it towards the end of the week

I have originals and the jready brand and they are very close in quality. Sounds like there maybe counterfeits around or the quality has dropped. I bought mine about 10 months ago.

could be, amazon has been problematic in the past.
I think i'll be better off buying original Deutsch connectors.

I'm probably walking right into a 'should buy OEM not Amazon China' discussions but here goes. This is my first time making a Deutsch connection. Using the Deutsch DTP female connector that came with the Grenny on LHD passenger rear (my EXT 3 switch). I can put the multimeter on the pins within the Deutsch male connector on the Grenny and I get 12.6v – so all good. Then I make up a whip to connect my new roof top tent….nothing. No power coming through the fabricated cable. Did some incremental tests, took the female Deutsch pins out of my kit unconnected and fit them on the attached to the Grenny male pins and I get 12.6v. Make a connection – nothing with 12awg wire. 12awg was tough to fit on the 12-14 Deutsch pin connector set I got from Amazon so I tried on 14AWG. Now I’m getting .2 - .4v but nowhere near 12. Here are some pictures.

Connector kit is for 12-14 awg

Crimper is for 12-14 connectors

I have wire showing in the view eye and my connections all make a good solid tone when tested for continuity.

Any advice from anyone more experienced in Deutsch connectors will be greatly appreciated.

And I've already ordered the DVA Mechanics 1 meter cable but I'd still like to know what I'm doing wrong.

I had the same issues with my Amazon connectors.
Went to the this place and got proper dt connectors

And this tool to crimp with. Never had an issue

Highly recommended. Don't give up. My issue with my china made connectors was that they never made a good connection and they didn't sit well in the connector case. The brand stuff works so much better and you can get black connectors which looks better on my black roof rack.

Issue is not limited to Deutsch plugs, it also happens with Anderson connectors (50 amp). I even wrote a blog entry up on the Anderson problem here. Actually multiple problems.

A bit of o'ring lube can make inserting the pins easier. A good tip is to measure the insulation next to the terminal and only remove as much to fit the wire into the terminal, this stops it bending an bunching when trying to insert the wires into the plug and possible short circuits in the plug from uncrimped strands. When using the generic style cheap crimper do the first crimp then gently close the crimp tool and pull the wire back. The terminal will stop against the small flange on the terminal at the teeth in the jaw of the tool and than do a second crimp this seems to make a more reliable crimp when using the cheap generic tools. A proper Deutsch crimper tool kit is $800+.
