Can anyone please help. In Melbourne, 3 weeks and 1800klm from home, my new petrol fieldmaster now won't start but continues to turns over even when the hand is removed from the ignition key . New years day, everything closed, going to see family, what with the aircon stuck on full heat and now this, it's trying my family's patience and raising deep concerns about our upcoming Simpson desert trek
I ran the first 200 miles on 0w20 then when to Pennzoil Platinum Euro L (LL04) 5w30 for the next 1000 miles. Drained and went to (LL04 LL01) QuakerState Euro 5w40. Oil temps are well within range and the engine runs way smoother than with 0w20. Anyone else made the switch? I’m going to do a UOA at 5k miles then at 7.5k miles. I’ll post my results here.
Which one from this list? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-W5OK4lO1-76FtP5fnOPkiKrkr_7SqSE/view?pli=1
Thread 'Anyone using the MMR Performance Lifetime Oil Change Service Kit for the BMW B58 / B57?'
In the Kit is a magnetic oil sump plug, Billet Oil Filter Housing and a reusable stainless steel oil filter. Details here. The OEM oil filter had had a reputation for failing, when used in BMW models. FYI: INEOS Part numbers for the diesel motor here. Other kits just have just the stainless steel oil filter. I cannot see any discussion of the product. I have bought the Kit and I am keen to use the magnetic oil sump plug and the Billet Oil Filter Housing, not sure about the filter just...
Just realised my Gren has a “kickdown switch” (had to google that term). Took me a few months and 5000km to realise. I have not owned a vehicle with this before. I wonder how many others are unaware.
Thread 'B57 Diesel Fuel Economy'
As we have a B58 petrol fuel economy thread but no diesel B57, I would like to start this new thread. My typical usage is Highway 45% (100-120km/h), Country Roads 40% (50-80km/h) and City 15% (10-30km/h). So far, no off-road. I am driving with no major load and without a trailer.
Thread 'B57 Engine Management Light'
As some will be aware, we are currently using a Grenadier loan car as ours has been with the dealer since 7th December and seemingly can’t be fixed. Yesterday was an exceptionally rainy afternoon / evening - even for the Midlands of England in February and the grenadier performed brilliantly on almost a 100 mile motorway drive in absolutely awful conditions. Jumped in this morning and the Check Engine / Engine Management Light is on. No fault is displayed in the Vehicle Information display...
The IG has ample of power. But if you feel that you need more, I highly recommend ChipYourCar Stage 3. Select the 6-cyl Turbo engine. https://chipyourcar.com/product/bmw-performance-chips/ I have used this for several years now on most of my cars and it's awesome. Instant power and unlimited torque.
Team - I have asked this same question in a couple of the oil threads and no one has been able to answer the questions so posting a dedicated thread. I plan on doing all of my own oil changes and routine maintenance so I would like to know the Service Reset procedure WITHOUT the scan tool, etc? I have always found some kind of reset procedure on all of my vehicles and I have to believe there is a way to do it, but it’s not outlined in the manual. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thread 'B58 engine oil leak (rear main seal)'
starting a new thread (originally mixed in with the transfer case oil leak thread) so I can document this particular issue and provide updates hopefully my issue will be fixed and this might be helpful to to others I started noticing a slow oil leak about two weeks ago (my car only has about 800 miles on it). A small drip of motor oil showed up near the engine starter towards the back of the b58 engine. I tried to wipe clean everything, but a new drop of motor oil showed up again the next...
Hello! I’m about to get my Grenadier, but I’m not set on that eternal diesel vs gasoline debate… I’m leaning towards gasoline. I’m not super concerned about gas mileage and I’d like to have a bit more highway juice for overtaking. I won’t be doing much towing, not offroad anyway. Also, it can get really cold in the winter mornings from where I come from, like -25*C (-13*F), and even -35*C (-31*F) isn’t unheard of… Also, no AdBlue, no DPF, easier/cheaper maintenance… That much for gasoline...
Any plans to offer a remote oil filter location? Any after-market vendors? The plastic oil filter housing screws into a base, what is the base material? Plastic or aluminum metal?
Interesting read for gearheads: B57: https://bmwtechinfo.bmwgroup.com/tech_training_manual/ST1704 B57 Engine.pdf B58: https://bmwtechinfo.bmwgroup.com/tech_training_manual/ST1505%20B58%20Engine.pdf
Before using an engine oil additive, take a look at this video first (it has interesting comments about how the additives can affect your oil's additives): View: https://youtu.be/CAGT5inQScE In short, he is not a fan and he explains why, based on science not speculation (to quote the Geek himself).
Interesting video on maintenance of diesel engines. Some common sense advice from an engine builder. View: https://youtu.be/kGN5iZ9zLTM
Any of you diesel owners tried sport mode on the transmission? Flick the lever over, give it full throttle. Nothing much happens, apart from lots of noise and lots of gear changes....I won't try that again!
Hello Fellow Enthusiasts, I'm taking ownership of a new Fieldmaster this week. The dealership is 300 miles away. I'm having my son and his buddy take delivery and drive it home. What's your recommended break-in routine for the first 300 miles of the Grenadier? I haven't seen Ineos' recommendations, but I have seen BMW's for the B58. I'd love to know what other IG owners have done. Thanks!
