Does anybody know what this rattling/tapping sound is and should I be concerned? Thanks in advance.
Summary I spent quite a bit of time researching what oil to use and how to conduct my first oil change on my B58 gas/petrol Grenadier. I thought I'd document and post up my findings, references and hopefully save others time so they can spend more time exploring, four wheeling or time with their loved ones. I'll reference the Dickin' Around Outdoors Ineos video for visual learners like myself. Feel free to debate anything since I've picked and choose everything I did from various sources...

Thread 'B57 service belt'
today while checking the engine I noticed that the service belt is marked. The cause seems to be the tensioning pulley. Does anyone else have experience with this? I currently have 20,000 km on the clock.
I assume our Grenadiers have the gen 3 b58? View: https://youtu.be/MkOoMwmMOiA?si=OdLM1BVnJ9BjNkco
After 10 hours of driving yesterday, I attempted to start my diesel Fieldmaster this morning. The starter motor spun freely but did not engage the engine. I crawled under the car and found what I thought might be the solenoid and gave it a tap with the back of my torch. My car started fine after that. The mechanic Ineos sent out said it probably needs a new starter motor. My car has done 17500kms and has not had its first service yet. Has anyone else had a similar problem?
BlueSpark really let it rip. Pretty impressed with these numbers. https://bluesparkautomotive.com/ineos-grenadier-b58-2998cc-286ps-450nm-3-channel-petrol-tuning-module Horsepower: 286 to 430 Torque: 331 to 464 My worry hasn’t been the engine. There’s TONS of B58s running 550hp+ and living long lives. The ZF tranny used was a little bothersome with its 350ft/lb limit but again there’s many guys running 500+ at the wheels with 50k miles doing it an no issues. I was reading from an...
When someone hits 20k miles if you're getting a UOA done could you please post it?
Thread 'FCP Euro and my new oil'
If you can't tell by my other thread I'm a bit of a nut when it comes to maintenance. BMW went 0w20 for CAFE and that 3% fleet efficiency increase. I've been running both Pennzoil Euro and QuakerState Euro as of late. Highly recommended. Both have LL01 ratings so a HTHS min of 3.5. The Pennzoil is a heavy 5w30 and the QS is a light 5w40 they're basically neck and neck. The QS I've ordered from Walmart for $22 a 5l and had shipped to the house. Then I started to get the itch and keep...
So very strange starting issue this morning. -9 C so not very cold. Battery shows 80% state of charge. Load tested the battery myself and it tests good. When I tried to start the truck this morning it would try and roll over the engine for like 1/2 second than stop, than 1/2 second and stop. It was behaving like a dead battery. Took the key out put the key back in turned and it started as normal. There was a message on the screen. “Please Re Start Vehicle” So shut it off, started it again...
Thread 'Engine oil level - diesel'
Sorry if this has already been covered in previous posts, but I noticed the hand book states you should not use the oil dip stick to check the engine oil level only the onboard computer. Is there a reason for this ?
Last week while car was in getting diff leak repaired they automatically changed my plastic engine cover. B57 SW 2023 Sept delivery UK Was told due to possible fire risk issues and effects the diesel one not the petrol version. Possibly dpf/efr related then??
Interesting to read the interview with Lynn Calder in the June 2025 issue of Car magazine. “For now, the Grenadier and its Quartermaster pick-up variant come with the choice of petrol or diesel 3.0-litre six-cylinder BMW engines. In a couple of years, they will switch to 48-volt mild hybrids.”
I don't want to start a discussion about sense or not, but in my world, after owning several Defender and Discovery TDI 300 and Td5 i'm convinced that Chip tuning is ok, if You take care of the possible disadvantages. So was my decision, to get a Tuning box for my Grenadier Diesel. Looks much easier than to get a new file on the ECU with a Nanocom... The first one, from Speedbuster in Germany, used to throw engine lights. I could erase them, but after I started the engine again the light...
Thread 'Oil level'
Excuse my ignorance - Level on road seems OK.Level off road refill 500ml Can anyone tell me the difference between those two Levels?
Is there any reason to *not* keep the engine cover on generally? I changed my oil at 700 miles, left the cover off until I'd driven and gotten the oil level to read ok in both on road and off road modes (it took 6.5 liters, then another 200 ml to get there), and have left it off for the past few days driving. With the engine cover off, the engine didn't seem louder to me (or I'm going deaf). The engine cooling system will keep the temp the same with or without the engine cover I assume...
After several hours on rough gravel tracks I stopped for 10 minutes or so. Restarting the check engine light appeared. The codes were pending transmission fault and pending communications error. I cleared them and it didn't come until now P248F which appears to be her cooling circuit U0418 which appears to be braking module Any cause for concern?
Hi All Wondering if you guys could listen to the attached video and give me your thoughts there is a quite heavy knock when my car is idling coming from around the starter motor sump area it is a B 58 petrol apart from the noise which is quite concerning it is running perfectly Any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated Cheers
Hello and good day, the (petrol) engine of my 2023 Grenadier won't start below 5 degrees Celsius. The display shows a red ERROR and several error messages appear in succession (TSA, ESC, brakes, uphill assist, transmission, service overdue, power steering etc.). I had the same problem last winter. By the time I got a service appointment, the temperatures had already risen again and the problem couldn't be found. Now it's happening again. My dealer doesn't have an appointment available until...
Thread 'Oil? leak B58'
Hello- I was installing sliders and noticed a silver dollar sized oil stain on the floor. Before I start digging in the engine bay and/or take it to the dealer 2 hours away I thought I would check with everyone here to see if this is a known issue. Thanks in advance!
