Third party sealed snorkels for the IG and QM

Just thinking out loud here. Would putting a pre filter such as a cyclone type , on the OEM raised air intake just cause more air to be sucked in through the unsealed parts of the air filter system ? So defeating the object if you don’t have a sealed system.

The theory checks out. The pressure drop would increase ever so slightly between the RAI head and the air filter due to the precleaner acting as a restriction. Some 'dirty' air could get pulled in through the inlet duct gaps. About this much maybe? 🫸. .🫷

Most would still pass through the precleaner as the path of least resistance and all of it goes across the airbox panel filter.

That's some lateral thinking right there...👍

Yes.

Certainly could, would depend on how big the gaps were and the like.

I’m sure a fresh RAI install with the cyclone filter and prudence to getting the “seal” to the fender and at the sleeve interface up high where the pre-filter elbow meets the plastic upright would go a long way for reducing gross dust incursion in many applications.

They certainly work, it’s the easier path for most of the air. Just work much better with a proper sealed “snorkel” tract.

Cyclonic pre-filters would perform better than the bowl type and I’ve seen those collect dust, but that won’t tell the whole story.

Hence abandoning it haha

The RAI from Ineos is so rattly and chintzy that it can’t properly support the pre filter up top anyhow without reinforcing. Losing battle

Thanks. I’ve experienced the dust getting into my EVAP filter which it shouldn’t. That had to be replaced as it made it very difficult to refuel the vehicle.

Totally agree. I don't need (or want to pay for) a crazy expensive sealed unit like the Gren X, but I would love a more stout RAI.

Oh that’s less than ideal.

The evap control valve on top of the intake manifold or back near the tank?

Absolutely, took a bunch of decision making gymnastics for me to “justify”.

I spoke with Safari about it and knew others who did too, and as stated on this thread.. no dice. Perhaps they’ll change their mind.

Maybe Dobinsons will get in the game (they have suspension for the Grenny and didn’t immediately turn a cold shoulder to the platform like ARB did)? They have some level of roto-molding aptitude. Which (post tooling) would possibly enable the volume rate production to bring cost in vs. the several large printed sections that CannaFab had to work with.
