I’m hoping. I did a detailed search on Grenadier engines failing and was unable to establish that it’s a problem. The video has been taken down and the relevant Australian facebook has turned toxic with accusations of deliberate untruths. I’ve got no idea myself. It would be useful for Ineos or someone who has actual facts to put out a statement. I loved my old defender but it was never the same after a certain Land Rover dealer butchered it.
I had a troopy after that that I loved too but unfortunately due to circumstances I had to sell it.
I’m missing a good 4wd and will definitely buy another when the time is right. The Troopy has a hilux engine in it. LR are a standing joke now when it comes to reliability…..too complex……Nissan has the warrior in Australia which is interesting but I’m more a worrier. I just like the look of the Grenadier. Looks like plenty of good places to mount my radios too. ( Amateur Radio Operator) Love the power to the roof. I think they could have had better isolation from the main battery to the secondary battery but at least there are two. The standard bullbar seems to be failing the kangaroo test but there are others.
Can you tell I’ve been obsessing? Which is why this story really threw me. I’m hoping the complete story emerges. The sooner the better.

I believe this is the only engine failure and it wasn’t just a failure.
It was environmental, ie the water was too deep

There are lots of idiots out there ready to render an opinion...sans facts.

One cried fowl with regards to water ingestion because...wait for it...the oil leaking out from the engine was brown, not like a milkshake...indicative of water in the crankcase. Apparently they didn't understand that water coming through the intake will bend or break a rod, but is isolated from the crankcase.

There's bound to be more communication with Ineos than what's been revealed.

Companies like Ignition, the dealer, and Ineos can’t just make public comments about ongoing issues.
Imagine if they had said something which made his insurance company reject the claim.
The poor bloke would then have been really screwed

As someone who is on the fence on this or at least was. Regardless of who was to blame, if it was warranty, or insurance. Who paid for the recovery..

A prospective owner looks and thinks.
- Will this happen to me as the car is sold as an offroad vehicle, and I use mine as such.
- How can an engine cost SIXTYFIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS?
- How can a brand sell cars in Australia and not have one engine in the country in case of this???

I've owned my current car for coming on 21 years. If I bought a grenadier I'd want at least the same. If the parts cost is so great that an engine is 65k, HTH am I going to afford to maintain it?

I'll admit I saved the video. If I ever find myself thinking of a grenadier ever again I'll watch it again.

I agree it all sounds a bit far fetched and enhanced to get YouTube views.

I used to have a Defender but this engine failure at 20,000 with no acceptance of warranty by Ineos has really put me off buying one and I can tell you that I was determined to buy one soon. I doubt it was hydrolock, they were 20 minutes into a fresh drive. Loss of oil followed by a seizure is more like it. If Ineos know what caused the failure they should be saying. If the guy making the video says they haven’t been told I will guarantee they haven’t been told. This lack of warranty and secrecy about cause of failure has me feeling sick that that could happen to me if I bought one.

So Ineos hasn’t told a third party, what happened.

So it was reported in the Video, although they may have shared info with the insurance company. Others have sown doubt (understatement here) that the video represented an accurate version of events. I just wish we could get a definitive account of what transpired with the engine.

What we do know:
- 4 cars took the harder track which involved water crossings, including a deep one;
- 3 of the 4 cars had the INEOS RAI;
- the INEOS RAI is not sealed;
- a single car had no RAI (the one that now has a blown motor);
- the owner of the car with the blown motor appears to have limited experience going remote;
- an earlier video shows cars with RAI's wading well over 800mm, the max wading depth of the IG;
- the car with the blown motor is not shown crossing the river, but it had to cross the river;
- it is not unreasonable to conclude it also exceeded the max wading depth;
- the owner and John Canny do not comment about the car exceeding the wading depth, but the known facts strongly suggest it did;
- reliable BMW motors do not just blow themselves up, something happened;
- it was not that long after the deep river crossing the BMW motor failed;
- a hydro locked motor is one explanation supported by video evidence, but it might not be the only possible cause (but the video, as posted, suggests no other cause);
- Roadside assist, INEOS and Budget all seemed to have acted properly towards the owner;
- we will not be told everything, whether we like it or not; and
- not buying an INEOS having regard to the above is pretty short sighted. Spend your money how you wish, but please stop coming here and saying you will not buy one. Many members are not interested in your opinion, so please stop wasting our time. We own these cars and most of us have had great experiences, even driving them hard. Actual experience trumps your theories or opinions. Nothing in that video undermines my trust and belief in the IG or QM, but I am impressed by what INEOS did, even if I would like to know the underlying cause of the failure. Lastly, I am not after YouTube clicks. Many cars come to grief every year at Cape York, every brand and many models. So frequent there is a list is kept, INEOS now has its first listing.

Take a look at the comments on his recent additives video. John C (another one!) has been anti-additives forever. Now he says he was wrong and is pro-additives, as long as they're Nulon additives.
Draw your own conclusions, or just agree with the commenters.

Wouldn't surprise me if he's a closet Peter Wherret. Overcompensating for something , for sure.
