Stuck at Cape York

So assuming the engine was compression locked, what would cause the massive oil leak? possibly the head gasket blowing out on the compression locked cylinder next to an oil gallery, obviously a corned sticking out the side of the block would be obvious. hats off to the insurance company, and to Ineos, they both deserve praise, not condemnation.
Rod going through the block due to being hydrolocked…
 
Good news that the insurance company picked up the cost if the failure is a non-warrantable event. Assuming water ingress caused the failure he must be with someone like Club4x4 who insure for water damage from intentionally driving in deep water. Pretty sure there is a 5 or 10% excess payed by the policy holder for a deep water event.

Even the best engines have a few bad seeds.

It was Budget Direct.
 
People seem to forget it is a BMW motor, sourced and detuned by INEOS for extended reliability.

It is a motor that has a well earned reputation for reliability over many years - long before INEOS started using it. Such motors do not just implode, it was damaged some how. Most likely by a driver with less remote travel experience and most likely accidentally. Precisely when an insurance policy should respond.
You mistake these yt "people". They're looking for any excuse to destroy the car. Some simply because it's based off a LR, others for no other reason than to wish the failure of things.
 
It was Budget Direct.
So possibly not a deep water related failure. It's common for some of the main stream insures to not cover or only partially cover the cost of damage from water crossings. Being on a gazetted road may of helped and why the insurer payed the claim.

The Toyota boys were putting crap on me when I was driving the Patrol. When Toyota says bend over, they ask how far.
 
The Toyota boys are preoccupied with the new Ford Ranger Superduty early release this week. Ranger Superduty is going to kill LC79 sales and challenge QM sales.

These engines are so heavily dressed with acoustic shields, heat shields and pipework that it's not easy to see much of the block at all. And the block is such a convoluted messy casting that I think it could be easy on the side of road to not see a leg sticking out of bed but there is Pinot Gris (B58) or Pinot Noir (B57) running out the bottom.

With my agent, I've been chasing a minor oil leak for over 12 months and even with a boroscope it's very hard to trace water weight oil that's slowly collecting at the bottom of the bell housing. It's not coming from the rear main. It's possibly one of the o-rings behind the oil filter housing because there is traces up the left side but it's near impossible to see in there without some disassembly.

Which video did he pull? The BS interview with the owner of the one where they all used their grenadiers as boats?

Edit… he pulled the bullshit interview with the owner. He likely got a letter from Ineos legal. What the hell was he thinking? Use the truck as a submarine and then bitch about it breaking!?!? I can’t believe they all didn’t break.
