I have 255/80r17 Yokohama Geolandar X-AT’s. They run narrow, but the grip has been great, they performed well in Moab last October, and are good in the terrain in the Sierras. On road they track well and perform without any negative surprises. I can highly recommend them. They have the carcass of a mud-terrain and the tread of an aggressive all-terrain.
Maybe, as stated in the previous post, the BFG HD Terrain lugs are just squirmy and behave like a mud terrain on grooved highway. ie, all over the place compared to an all terrain.
