Carbuzz: Mercedes-AMG G63 Could Face New V8 Rival Soon

I don’t see that coming in real life.
It’s an appealing idea but the engine would be heavier than the existing and the thirst would grow as well.
Maybe with 22“ wheels and sidepipes for the malls…

Why change from the reliable engine it has now? I’ve not yet experienced a feeling that it’s underpowered - I’ll take reliability. It’s plenty for what it is.
I will say though, that’d likely mean a better climate control system, right?

Does GM even make a modern reliable V8 right now? Thousands of 6.2L engines with catastrophic main bearing failures. Also other V8 issues with lifters due to cylinder deactivation technology.

Thirst? Who cares about fuel prices when you're a celeb poseur? Or as we say dowunder, a wanker.

I'd buy the portal version with a V8 without hesitation, however portal's on this B58 without a power bump no thanks. It would be sweet to see the Ford Godzilla dropped in this beast!!! ;)

The big worry is that the bean counters on both sides might see the 6.2L as an "opportunity"...:devilish::poop: The marketing types will call it the "378" (cubic in.) and that will fix everything! (sarcasm writ large)
I received an upbeat invitation from the Chief Marketing Officer "Johnathon" inviting me to buy a second Grenadier or upgrade to the latest model. I'm thinking of writing to him to remind him that this vehicle was touted by Ineos as an "inter-generational " purchase... and would welcome him making good on original promises where spare parts and information are not weaponised and service doesn't become a monopoly designed to extract the max. out of one's pocket.... but I'll say it nicely ;)

The 5.3 is still going strong. I didn’t really see the point of the 6.2. Little gain. Bragging rights I guess and a little more pull power. The 5.3 is pretty solid.

Totally agree! I don’t think the Grenadier would benefit from as big a lump as the 6.2L it would be overkill. Still, with the likes of GM, Ford and even Toyota, in the case of the turbo V6 Tundra, suffering what seems like endless engine failures and recalls if IA wants to produce a beefy V8 version I hope they do their research before settling on a supplier domestic or otherwise.

Your Grenadier will be much heavier and your wallet much lighter. Add in a couple of boyz from the hood with their gold chains there will be zero payload left over.

Simply install bigger turbos from the existing BMW stable. I’m sure triple turbo with appropriate remap version would do the job nicely.

That poor ZF gearbox...
One of the chaps working on the interminable rebuild next door (7 yrs and counting as they 're aiming for a German accreditation to do with sustainability...) has a serious weekend hobby building 'drift' cars. He was complimentary about the Grenadier's 8HP76 gearbox for its strength and reliability. He said that the 8HP55? used in the petrol series is a favourite in the local drift community, with some standard installs reliably handling 1,000bhp from highly modified Japanese 4 cyl engines... I'll take his word for it

Who the hell is that? Genuinely no clue whatsoever.

Regardless, it looks like he doesn't have the wing checker plate so he must be a lightweight.
Must be , or was? (2 interpretations possible)
