Morning all,

Can someone smarter than me please explain what I’m doing wrong or point me in the right direction with regards to kit to order.

I’m trying to use drivers side auxiliary outlet as phone charger. Current setup which doesn’t work:
- 12V 10A supply via INT2 switch -> DCDC converter (down to 5V3A) -> USB C adaptor -> USB C Cable up to wireless charger on dashboard.

If I use the 12v on the cigarette adaptor they provided it works and measuring the voltage shows I have 5V DC out of my transformer. Does a phone charger look for anything else before powering up?

TIA

Hi James. I’ve used the auxiliary outlet from IN2 switch and connected usb sockets. I presume the dc converter is within the sockets as the back of the sockets connects directly to the to 12 v supply. Are you adding in an extra dc to dc converter ?

I normally run two USB sockets, one with the newer quick charge 3.0 (with C and A type sockets) and one of the older types (1 amp and 2.1 amps). By having a mixture I can charge almost any phone or device. Sometimes phones or devices can be picky which USB they will work with.

Example of newer USB socket:

Older style socket:

Take the cig socket out and put in the newer USB socket and connect to INT2. It should work, mine do.

USB sockets can often be easily moved around into another panel or housing like you see in @Logsplitter's image above.

SWITCHES, SWITCH PANELS, HOUSINGS, USB SOCKETS, ETC.
Many of switches seen on 4X4s are Carling type switches (now owned by Littelfuse) also called rocker switches. UK sources of these switches include:

  2. MUD Stuff here; and
  3. 12 VOLT PLANET here.

12v Planet in the U.K. are a great place for everything 12v inc solar charging. They are my main port of call for accessories wiring.
edit. The other great thing about 12v Planet is they have a great knowledge centre and even a WhatsApp helpline. Which is very useful for expert advice. 👌🏼

I added that site to the UK list.

Thanks everyone.

Yes @Logsplitter I’ve got a secondary adaptor inline as I was trying to avoid having to have a cigarette lighter type thing going on.

I purchased one of these slim line made in China outlets but have never used it as I really don’t trust the components and quality !

True. This is the Chinese one I’m using although I did measure the voltage and I was getting 5V from it. Perhaps you’re both right and I should try something from Farnell or other more reputable retailers

I would definitely buy from a reputable source rather than some unbranded thing from Amazon. Amazon can be a source of some good deals if you’re buying a well known brand such as blue-sea.
12v planet have everything you need
