Any way to wire grill lights to original grill light switch, not aux 1?

Hi all,
Looking to do new grill lights and roof rack lights. I want these to be controlled independently of each other. I’m not wanting to run a switch pro or aux beam as I’d like it to be stock. I don’t have the upgraded aux switch kit.

I would like to run the grill lights to the original aux exterior lights button and run the roof rack lights to the aux 1 switch.
Has anyone done this yet? I’ve seen some other people mention it in here but haven’t found a solution. I want to run the lights without being in off road mode or using the high beams. I understand that this likely wouldn't work through the computer of the truck, but what about disconnecting the button itself and using it as a hard switch to the lights?

Any help or input would be great before I start ripping everything apart.

Thanks.

All my wiring work and aftermarket spots were installed by a professional car audio shop. They do a great job because those guys know wiring. Take it to a pro with the factory manual that has the wiring diagram and then you have no worries!

It’s doable.
I’ll try and take pics of mine shortly. But it’s not quick or easy. Basically, drop overhead panel, splice in small pilot wire, run wire down A pillar to under hood to a relay, get power for relay from the battery point. Now choices, either cut the wire leads off the lights and make a harness, or open up the main harness, cut the wire in the harness and splice at that point. But it’s not straight forward.

Option B convince your dealer to update the software to UK spec

Have you confirmed this as an option? To the best of my knowledge they don't have the ability to do this directly and would be a coding related change which is handled by an automated server

The original service manager at my dealership seemed confident it could be done. But they fired him and the second and third service manager simply refused to do it. And would only say that it’s not legal in Ontario.

I mean, the last part is at least accurate in the US, I would imagine the Canadian lighting laws are similar, if not even more strange... (I remember back in the early days of DRLs 25 years ago the B5 Audi S4s in Canada specifically didn't get HIDs and had halogen projectors and no fog lights to allow the low beams to be DRLs)

Definitely doable.

I would unplug the existing wiring from the existing switch and check which pin does what.

I would then feed the 12v to this switch by tapping into the output of the power switch in the roof panel.

Then take the output from the aux switch and feed a relay module. It will need to be a Single Channel Latching Relay Module as the aux switch is non latching.

You would need a 12v supply to this relay module of course.

Then feed the output directly to the aux lights and roof lights.

Routing the wiring and deciding where to mount the relay module would be hardest part!
