Back from the dealer last night, new rear diff installed. Still no technical conclusions other then a mechanical failure. However, after the dealership had the first road lock they were able to repeat it consistently, so the problem would have grown worse. A few thoughts; 1. Be sure to know the warning signs as this could be dangerous. Extremely long delays getting the rear locker out. Say 10 minutes or more off road, rolling backwards, taking it out of center lock does not seem to get it...
Ok, I know you guys wanted an update. I decided to start a new string as the failure string will go on forever. Installed the new unit today. Before turning the truck back over to my wife, I did some city/ highway runs. With the 1.5" lift and original shaft before it blew, I had bad harmonics between 58-68 MPH or so. Pretty noticeable and annoying. With the Agile shaft, much less under power. HOWEVER, between 58-70 De-accelerating you get it, with a little bit of noise. Not sure if you would...
Having researched the Grenadier's ZF pan and filter, we have a 2 uptake port filter, one that is used on BMW mild hybrids and it appears any vehicles with engine start/stop. The 2nd port's purpose is to maintain transmission fluid pressure during engine stop, and on mild hybrids, when the transmission is disconnected from the engine during coast. The 2nd port is operated via an electrical motor so that pressure is maintained to ensure the ZF is ready to go at a moment's notice after coast &...
Hello, I am a new 4x4 user from Belgium. Ecxuse my bad writing. On a close turn, the central dif (locked) has a rattle. The underground was frozen. Is this a safety because there is to many traction?
There have been discussions about whether you fill the front and rear diff fluids up to the fill hole, or if you're supposed to fill both up to I think it was 23mm (or 31mm?) below the bottom of the fill holes -- I forget the actual values that were being bandied about. Has anyone found confirmation from INEOS Automotive on this? Can someone with access to the online manual (I'm still waiting for access, months now), see if there is a description of the refill process and what those...
Thread 'Front Driveshaft Removal - Tech Data Request'
Hey everyone. I decided it was time to do some preventative maintenance and swap out my driveshaft as I'm lifted 3" and 10,000 miles on this shaft. Nothing wrong with it. Just staying ahead of any issues. I was able to get the front shaft unbolted without too much dramas at the axle side. The transfer case end on the other hand has been a bit of a headache. I sheared a bolt off and still can't get the CV to disconnect from the TC flange. I currently have it soaking in penetrating oil and...
Found a lot of metal in the front diff fluid at 10k miles. One piece is 1"x 1/4". Ineos is literally telling it is fine as long as the fluid is full and there are no odd noises. ARE YOU KIDDING ME Ineos? Anyone else have this problem and have Ineos tell them it is OK?
Huge metal deposits in front diff at 10k miles. Ineos says it is fine as long as there is no noise or problems. Crazy. Anyone else have this problem?
Hi. I haven't been on the forum for months. Having too much fun in the Grenadier, partly. But lately the truck has been ... misbehaving. Thought I'd share this latest event, in case it rings a bell with anyone else's situation. Since the truck's first service at around 17,000 km, I've experience a handful of times when it feels/sounds like a diff may be locking when the truck is cold around the first few 90 degree turns. Tire chirp/skid. Likely the rear diff? Maybe centre or transfer case...
How reliable have your diff been. Easily engaged and disengaged? Any major malfunctions?
We have plenty of threads about the how and why and alternatives for a failed front driveshaft, but I wanted a to know WHAT to do if I’m on the highway or off-road especially. I’d like to restrict this thread to that, so there is a resource that is easy to navigate. What are the first signs of failure? If it fails on-road, Ineos warranty coverage road-side service will came and tow(?) it to the nearest dealer, correct? If you are Offroad, I assume that road-side service won’t come? What can...
On cold start this morning there was a knocking coming from what I assume was prop shaft. Checked under the car and no loose wires or anything else coming into contact with any moving parts. Essentially while under load there is a knock knock knock knock... that speeds up or slows down depending on load. It does not change on steering left or right. It is most noticeable in 1st/2nd/3rd gear and does not change if I shift into low range. After the car warms up and I get into 4/5/6th gear it...
I have just bought a 2026 Trialmaster and a friend is looking at a 2023 Trialmaster with 39000km on it. It goes really well except we picked up that the transfer case is slightly noisier than my new one when decelerating from 120km/h. It's a whining noise an only when you decelerate. The dealer mentioned that the 2023 model was slightly noisier. Anyone have similar experience with the older models as my mate is really keen to buy the car.
Has anyone seen any cases where of someone regearing the transfer case to 4:1? Not sure how the mapping of the engine and shifting is tied to the transfer case, or is only about engine RPMs. Either way, just wondering is anyone as done it or heard of someone doing. I like 4:1 in my other vehicles, but they are also used for different types of technical terrain.
Thread 'Front drive shaft spitting grease'
So my front drive shaft CV at the transfer case is spitting grease but the boot is intact. What could be the issue?
Thread 'Driving with only one driveshaft?'
I few years ago (before I got my Grenadier) I was on a 5500-mile trip in my 2013 Jeep Wrangler and at about 700 miles in one of the CV joints on the rear driveshaft failed. Since that's not a common auto parts store part and I was on a schedule I was stuck and had to find a way to continue so I decided to remove the rear driveshaft and continue the trip in 4wd on the front driveshaft only. The Jeep drove and handled fine and I did the rest of the trip (4800 miles) on front drive only. My...
My wife and I are headed out on a 6+ month on-and-off road expedition in the Grenadier I am picking up next week. Start in Santa Fe, NM, out through far west Texas, NOLA, Nashville, Northeast. Truck is a 2024 Base, 11k miles, with Fox 2.5 reservoir shocks on it with what I think are Agile Off Road 1.25-1.75 springs. Fully loaded, I am estimating about 1200 lbs of passengers and gear. Truck has Fox Race Series steering stabilzer, Mickey Thomson 255/85R17s on steel wheels. Given the...
Hi folks, In this video from November 2021, they seem to be discussing the low-range gear ratio. This is the first specific info I've seen on the topic. I believe that the driver (who works for Ineos) says that the low range ratio is 2.5 to 1 (2.5:1). He is German, and he is speaking in English, so I'm not completely sure I am hearing this right. If you are interested, go to 7:40 (7 minutes 40 seconds) in the video and listen for yourself. For comparison, a Jeep Wrangler Sport is...
I was perusing the UK brochure and something just struck me. The petrol and diesel have different ZF 8HP variants. The petrol gets a 8HP51 (500 Nm peak torque) whereas the diesel gets the beefier 8HP76 (750 Nm peak torque).  https://blog.fcpeuro.com/zf-8-speed-transmission-guide-8hp45-specs-common-problems-diagnostics-maintenance?hs_amp=true https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZF_8HP_transmission The 51 is used in cars like Supra, Z4 and G20 3 series. The 76 is used in the torquier Alpina...
Hi all, do we know whether it comes with/needs diff breathers?
