Thread 'NA Trailer Brake Controller Install'
Just finished installing and testing a trailer brake controller on our NA Grenadier. Went with the Redarc EBRH-ACCV3-NA Tow-Pro Elite Electric Brake Controller; as suggested by Mark @ Redarc. This is the same unit we had on our Defender. I also needed to order a longer remote wire to move the remote head to the front dash area for mounting. The extension hasn’t arrived yet, so for now the remote is strung to sit between the drivers seat and the center console: RHWK-004 13ft Tow-Pro...
Thread 'Breaking problem'
Yesterday I had a little surprise. I gave 13 000 km on the meter. Only driven offroad once, for real. Yesterday after a stop for food, I when I hit the braking pedal to start the car, it went straight to the floor. No pressure, no breaks. Drove 50 m and stopped. Leakage from the right front wheel. I have a LHD Utility, equipped like a Trialmaster. It seems that the braking hose has been in contact with the wheel the whole time. Wore a hole in the hose. Either a mounting error I production...
Hey all, Just a simple question, does anybody knows the exact braking distance from 100 kmh to zero? Dry and wet? With the different tires (BFG, Bridgestone)? I assume the brembo system is very powerful and performant. I did not find any tests in the net. Thx a lot for your help
Went to use the handbrake stopped on slope and found it doesnt seem to hold the vehicle when in drive or park but will hold it in reverse or neutral when the motor is running. I dont know whats going on there. Anyone else had any issues.
So I've noticed during a few steep hill starts at road junctions that the Gren is inclined to roll backwards. I'm pretty quick between brake and accelerator pedals but I expect any driver that pulled up behind me has thought perhaps they should've left more room! Does anyone else see this characteristic on their vehicle? I've read elsewhere on the forum that the Gren is supposed to have 'Hill Assist', but if it does it doesn't seem to work for me during normal road driving. Is it just an...
Thread 'Blew a brake line'
Drove a big loop of easy stuff out of Boulder today. Came back and inspected. Seems I have lost a little brake fluid and shredded the brake line above the rear drive shaft. Obviously lost some fluid from The reservoir, but showed no loss of performance. It’s hard to see, but the jacket around the black lines at the top is shredded. Looks like a literal pressure rupture. I’ll call my dealer tomorrow, but in the meantime, anyone else have this problem? Anyone want to go check theirs to make...
I really don't know why this product would be needed, but, I like in the comments when someone brings up the lack of Ebrake, and the Poster says hills are few around him and it would be different in a place like San Francisco. Yea, there's much to be said about that statement, but I get a kick out of someones logic, where it doesn't register in their brain, that when there's a failure on a hill, it's only one hill, and that hill doesn't not know if there are other hills around it or not...
I've scanned the Forms and can't find anything anywhere, I'm having an engine light come on throwing the code (U0418 Invalid data received from brake system control module A) does anyone know if this can be fixed and home / on the road or is it an Ineos fix. It's kind of a nothing code in a scale of things but just want to know. cheers
Thread 'Have You Encountered ABS Tone Ring Damage?'
Unfortunate Event vs. Engineering Issue This is a centralization post to hopefully get all occurrences of ABS tone ring damage from rocks/debris. In my particular case, a sharp rock got caught into the rear abs ring and bent the ring. Looking at other vehicles, this part is not exposed and, even if it is, it has a very small surface area or is gear-shaped (no holes). The ring tone used in the Grenadier is exposed and has large holes, where rocks and debris might get caught. My theory is that...
I was contacted by PowerBrake about a big brake kit for the Grenadier/QuarterMaster, but they need a vehicle for one day at their facility in Johannesburg... If someone on here is interested, please send me a private message and I will pass along the info!
Hi. I have a diesel Trialmaster and surprised by the long brake pedal travel and how soft it feels. Not sure if that's normal for this vehicle or there's an issue with mine. Would welcome any thoughts / experiences :)
Anyone experience a loose or knocking brake pedal at the top of its travel? I can lightly press and then release the pedal and feel the free-play and knocking as the pedal springs back up to its resting position. It’s a little annoying as it kinda bounces/thumps back up to its resting position every time you let go of the brake. I know on other vehicles there is usually a stop or an adjusting rod where can fine tune the free-play but can't see up under the dash well enough to see if that...

Anyone ever experienced the need for a brake control system for when you have your foot (especially with boots on) on the brake but it is also partially resting on the accelerator and the accelerator gets the preference, so the vehicle lurches forward when you want to brake it? Does anyone think it is possible to have one installed? It’s almost as if the placement of the two pedals is off by some fraction.
Hi all, Over the past few days I've noticed and occasional thump or thud from the brakes when barking normally from middle speeds like 35mph (50km/h). Feels like a thump and then the brakes engages maybe a touch later than normal. Any idea what may be going on? I'm coming up on my 12k service next month and I won't be driving much the next 3 weeks. Anyone seen or heard something similar? It's not a very load thump, none of my passengers notice it. But I do as I driven the car a lot and...
Wondered if anyone had found any non genuine Grenadier brake pads for the front and rear calipers? I have tried tracking some down but have consistently drawn a blank so I'm curious to know if anyone else has tried?
I guess I'm going all in on FCP Euro. Have been trying out their policy and sure enough they've been paying me back for sending them my oil. I'm at 21k miles and anticipate needing new brake pads and rotors at 30k miles. Does anyone have part numbers or tables to reference to find the highest end replacements on FCP? I don't mind spending the money for the premium product knowing I can replace it later.
Hey All, just thought I'd ask if anyone else has issue with their brake pedals when turning? So I was driving along in the road and decided that I wanted to turn right into a small street, hard brake and turned wheels to right and brake pedal gave way for a split second and then recovered. Each time this has happened since it makes a clicking sound when it happens, just recently it happened travelling slowly when I made a quick right turn on a roundabout. This fail has been frequent and...
Thread 'damage to the phonic wheel'
Has anyone experienced damage while driving on roads only - not off-road to the phonic wheel and speed sensor? This according to the dealer is from external damage and isn’t covered by warranty
An informative video from MadMatt 4WD. A HUGE difference in brake temperatures by changing the way you do a hill descent in an automatic. Over 200C (392F) degrees cooler descending the correct way! Mad Matt takes about saving brake pads and rotors but it also means you do not cook your brake fluid. For me a timely reminder as I always did this in the manual Nissan Patrol, I need to remind myself to do it in the auto Grenadier - now that I own a van. The only twining I have done so far, was...
