Workshop Manuals available?

Why on earth is there a 6 week waiting period for them to send this? Why not just publish it? Are there trade secrets in there?

Lynn mentioned the particulars when we met (we’re working to get the interview out asap) but basically, the system was designed for dealer use in that it was created with the expectation of a few hundred user accounts. These accounts have to be created manually and the process is a bit time consuming and very clunky.

It's not going to be a published manual, it's an online tool which allows you to investigate the items you are interested in.

My supposition is that they have limited server capacity so want to drip feed users onto the system.

I guess it’s better than nothing, but since it’s online, they can pull access at any time. Right? Not sure how useful that is in the long run. Also, I’m not sure about that description that you can investigate problems. Is it not a true manual??

My VIN is 1312, no e-mail yet. But do I still need it? During the last two years I dismounted (and sometimes broke) a lot of things and I know the electrics quite well! Better late than never anyway.
And only free for 12 months! And after that? How much?

It's probably so long to be on the conservative side rather than the shorter side to stop people moaning at them if they fall behind registering people

Hmmm, no email for me yet.
VIN is 673, so I don’t think the mails go by VIN.
The car is working fine at the moment so I don’t really need it.

Reverse VIN, I got my email and my vin is 7601. It is probably good old fashioned alphabetical manual upload

I took her at her word on this, but to then send out an email that says you've only got access for 12 months (sorta, maybe, we'll see) and the clock starts now, of course people are going to register immediately! If what she said is true, then the clock should start when you register. I would have put it aside and signed up when I needed the manual. I would have lightened the load on their end.

I dread 11 months into access when my computer will DONG!!! at me randomly to let me know my time is running out. 😂🤬

In the email I received from INEOS:

"Complimentary 12 month customer access runs from the date of this email."

But also:

"We'll process requests as quickly as we can, but it might take up to six weeks."

And still, they're not upfront about what continued access might cost. (Did I miss this?)

Now if we were getting online access to something linear like a PDF then, great, I'll print it and bind it and be done with it. But I expect it's similar to what I've seen at the dealer ... a portal that's Javascript heavy, interactive, and not easy to just "snapshot" for a hardcopy. This is what I'd expect from a company making self-driving cars with massive touchscreen dashboards. (n)

I love my truck but INEOS continues to miss the mark on their claims of DIY and fix-it-in-the-mountains and the concept that ownership includes the unrestricted ability to mod and maintain.
