What did you do with your Grenadier today?

Finally got around to installing my Quadlock phone mount. I saw this in another post on the forum. Luck will have it that this base fits the screw holes perfectly. Just had to use two longer bolts than the OEM ones. One of those 3 minute installs that gives great value every single time you get in the car!

Hi Hugo, I have been looking for a ball mount for the quadlock for a while, could you please let me know where you got his from? Also the other mount on the grab handle looks good, what is that one?

Have you tried the forum shop. There is 1 design available that fits neatly around the heated seat buttons or where they would be if you don't have them.

Friday a.m.: returned the homemade transmission skidplate to the Grenadier (removed for axle pinion and transfer case seal work). Took 15 minutes.
Friday p.m.: installed Agile Offroad's gas tank skidplate. Took 1.5 hours and a lot of choice words.
I did not know or expect Agile's skidplate not to have its own brackets. It bolts to the existing factory gas tank skidplate - which is not a bad solution, just not what I expected. It also implies the factory skidplate to have ... the factory shape, which mine didn't - so some time was spend bashing the factory unit to shape and shooting the scuffed areas (with factory powdercoating flaking off) with RustOleum.
The new add-on skid requires holes to be drilled in the factory unit. Reinstalling the assembly was helped with a trolley jack under the skidplate - I probably could have "bench-pressed" the skidplate but it would cause more aggravation.
Now I have about 0.25" less ground clearance and plenty of room to stash sand and small pebbles in the gaps between the factory and add-on units.
But I'll also have a bit more peace of mind - knowing the factory skidplate could be bent by not much more than an angry look.

Saturday early a.m.: drove from San Diego to L.A. to meet other Grenadier owners. Stu Barnes, Bill Ruttan, and Tony Herrera showed up at the Motoring Club in West Los Angeles - good to meet you all!
 
It said to add a liter…but I wasn’t on level ground so could get an accurate reading. Had I not gotten the red “Stop driving” message I would’ve done just 1 quart (976ml). Since my appt is Monday if it is burning through oil I didn’t want to have any issues this week. I have to drive to Rochester/Buffalo this week for work so hoping I’m good…
From my experience it never tells you to add 0.8 liter or any other amount. It is - as far as I know 1 liter or zero. Already did it twice, so not sure ...

Mine asked me to add 500ml, to which I obliged to the mm.... 10km's down the road later and the warning comes on that I've overfilled! Then another 5 hours of bings and bongs threatening imminent engine damage until I reached the dealer...

I feel that this car operates off a different metric, not the accuracy of any physical gauge, but rather the presence or lack of aggressive chimes... (and great guesswork is required to safely operate within these extremes). While perhaps one just needs to get used to it, it's an interesting trait for a 'modern Defender'.

Mine said add 1ltr. I did. Then after a 50 mile drive said I had over filed. 25 miles later of nagging and restart to take to garage it was still bonging, halfway there it goes off and says ok level for on and off road???

I really would've liked an accessible and function over form dipstick - alongside the electronic version if necessary. I know there is one at the back on the B57 but not exactly accessible or indeed whether it serves the purpose it should do.
 
Between service intervals, I do my own oil changes. I check the oil level both on the display and on the dipstick at the rear end of the B57 diesel engine. It's true that the dipstick is somewhat hidden, but if you know where it is, it's easy to reach. Despite my height of 186 cm, I use a small stool to make it easier. The fact that BMW advises against using the dipstick for checking is probably because it's sometimes difficult to read correctly, which is probably due to the thinness of the oil. But with a little practice it is easy.
'Since a few weeks I use only HVO100 synthetic diesel.

It is quite difficult on some dipsticks when the oil is fresh, i never thought about how thin it was which is making it worse to read.

Dropped her off to get XPEL Windshield protectant applied. After application done said they like to have them cure 24 hours before pickup. So will get her back in morning.
Last week had following done on my build thread so will update everything here too:
- Recall for door lock mechanisms that comes with new keys and ignition
- Weather stripping reattached under passenger front door
- Trouble shot why no power at any of the 120v outlets. Found that the inverter in side panel of cargo area was not completely plugged in so easy fix once they checked switches and wiring.
- Software update to fix the Over Speed Warnings (USA ONLY). First one did not work so there was a second release few days later. Works perfectly...only thing I have to remember now on startup is to turn OFF the AUTO STOP button.
- Dealership also checked TSB for rubbing on starter cable and applied a sheath over it or however is recommended to fix.
- Ceramic tint all around
- replaced steering stabilizer with FOX OEM from Agile Offroad...self centers about 85-90% of way now and much more pleasant to drive. Will adjust caster next alignment to help little more.
- installed Agile Offroad rock sliders
- installed Diabolical rear drawer system.

Fixed some cross bars on to the OEM full rack to allow fitting of Thule box for snow season. I had bought the special T track Thule accessory for fitting last year but was unsuccessful! The included T bolts have at least been used despite excess cost 🤣. Seems good now 😁👍🏼

Not a happy day at all and would be grateful for any advice / help !
Early this afternoon and 10mins into a drive from Reading ( Uk ) to home in
Hampshire the dashboard engine temperature warning activated with yellow
advice that engine was overheating. I subsequently slowed down and proceeded
for another 1.5 miles ...... it was not safe to stop prior to this distance. During this
period the dashboard warning changed to red and informed that I must stop which I
was able to do in a roadside layby.
With engine off I checked under the vehicle but no signs of any form of leak.
As an 'early purchaser' the roadside assistance with AA has finished but I took out
cover with Green Flag - just in case.
A call to them which was handled very efficiently resulted in Westbourne Motors arrival
within just over one hour and subsequent transportation for vehicle, wife and I home.
My sincere thanks to both of them.

1612hrs now home - contact made with Neve at Ineos Customer Team - very pleasant and
helpful but not sure what happens next. She confirmed that the nearest service facility
was Compass at Bridgewater 108 miles away and that if the vehicle could be looked at
there then I would be liable for transportation costs !
I explained that the vehicle was within the warranty period and surely any costs should
be borne by IA and not the customer.
She has promised to look into the matter further and get back to me.

Thank you for your advice and help.
 
Just a follow up - Neve has got back to me to advise that Compass would be able to
have a look at my vehicle but neither they nor IA are able to assist with transport costs
as AA cover has expired !
Really not sure what to do now as I was led to believe at time of purchase that the
warranty was 'all embracing'.
