US Oil for B58 Engines

That is an interesting one. I believe in that video he talks about the fact in their oil analysis (the guys main business) they see less metalic engine wear debris when people run 0-20 than when those same engines switch to 5w30. Does give you pause if thinking about switching. Obviously best case is to send in samples once your engine is fully broke in and see what weight oil generates less wear.
I think the point I leaned in on for that video was the Shear timing of the thinner oil. The conclusion I took out of it was if I'm using the engine in a manner that is stressful or in higher heat environments going from 20w to 30w is about 30% more protection for longer (more miles). While the 20 or thinner oils tend to break down faster and show more wear with the metallic particles. Really what got too me was the thinner oils break down faster since they simply start with a lower amount of protection..... Basically what I've always thought but didn't have lab work like this dude.

I just had my 2nd year service, so new oil and filter. I’m 3k away from my personal 5k change interval, undecided, but thinking I should drop the oil and refill with M1 ESP 5W30.
 
This is probably posted somewhere else, but is there a requirement in the US for dealer service to maintain the warranty? I thought there may be, but when I picked mine up a month ago, the Red Noland guy told me to just keep good records of what service I do myself.
 
You just have to prove annual/service interval service has been done with factory approved oil and parts. Extremely good record keeping with copies of receipts and photo journals is mandatory to insure messing with your warranty. Stray from using factory approved spec filters and oils and kiss your engine warranty claims goodbye.

Once your vehicle is out of warranty you can do whatever you want.
