Turning Radius

Finally stopped raining. I bottomed the right stop out on the nut, no change from 32 degrees. removed steering damper, no change. bottomed left stop on the nut, no change. so it looks like I'm stuck at 32, 32. question is....what is causing the hard stop, the steering box?
 
The steering stops are stopping your steering. :)

Just for diagnostic purposes remove the steering stop bolts while your stabilizer is removed and try again.

You can reinstall them immediately after testing if you are worried about causing damage.

The 38 degrees I posted above is with the Fox ATS steering stabilizer plus the steering stop jam nuts replaced with two thick 7/16" washers, steering stop tightened down.

I wish they were but they are not. do you get 38 degrees in both directions?
 
Is there a steering damper with equivalent feel to stock, but not limiting turning travel?
The Fox is adjustable. I leave it on 5 for highway and return to center, and when I get off road in rocky sections I turn the screw to 12, for the stock feel. It's easy (as long as it isn't muddy, then do it before exiting pavement)

And having adjusted the steering stops, I have a 38° turn each way, which makes a big difference.

well I kept turning the wheel after it became hard to turn and I have 36 degrees both ways (jam nut bottomed against the stop). The steering wheel turns much easier in reverse which makes me think somehow the power steering goes away after 32 degrees.

Interesting. My Fox ATS 2 set on 12 (12 of 24) self corrects 85-90% giving me the "intentional" feel for me to correct the last 10-15% out of a corner.

FWIW, taking the lock nuts off the steering stops and installing two .125" thick washers reduced my u turns by 6' so whatever that works out to in degrees completely improves my ability to navigate tight spaces.

I need to address this. Switching between vehicles, when back in the Gren I always make a tight turn and wham - hard into the steering stop thinking I should have a few degrees more!

If I have 32deg. L/R, and could have 38deg, I’m fixing this!

FWIW... The added increased turning radius associated with adjusting / removing the steering stop nuts or installing washers is maximized by changing the steering stabilizer.

I played it safe and used the thick washers as shown here.

I have installed the fox ATS steering stabilizer and adjusted the steering stops. However, my steering radius did not improve. When i turn full lock, it's still at 34° degrees, just as before, and it is not touching the steering stops. Isn't the steering pump the limiting factor? Anything I can do about this?

I notice when i drive backwards, then the steering goes further into the stops, i think because backwards driving pushes the wheels further. This also seems to indicate the steering pump is at the limit, and when driving backwards, you can go further.

Any ideas, i want to improve my turning radius.

The pump is the limiting factor. The steering basically goes into manual to get to the stops. But you will find if you are moving you can exceed easily. Also when offroad the manual steering will portion kind of disappear if you will. Mine also stops assist around 34-35° but I can exceed 40°. Try putting a dab of paint on your stop and go drive around for a bit forward only. Go through a parking lot or two. You will likely find you hit the stops without much trouble.

Interesting. Anecdotally, (my experience as well as others) prior to making the changes to the steering stabilizer and stop setting when we reached what felt like full lock, if additional pressure was applied to the steering wheel we gained a bit more turning radius. I never explored this because I didn't like doing it. When I changed the steering stabilizer this stopped happening.

I gained at least 6 feet of turning radius by adjusting the steering stops (with washers) so there is a bit more to be had in my case. I haven't looked at the stop nuts since making the adjustment but they were the limiting factor on my Trialmaster as the paint was worn of the face of the stop.

Is the steering box the limiting factor? Sure at some point. My Trialmaster was made in the middle Q2 of '24, I am not tracking what has happened with later models but we hear the mid to late '25 (2026) product is different / improved from the factory.

Here is video that mirrors my experience. I have a cul de sac at the end of my street and if there were no cars on the street I could turn around using the full width of the court, with cars it was a 3-4 point turn, now I can navigate the court with cars on the street.
