Mandatory speed limiter EU on all cars from July 2022 and retrofitted in every other car by 2024

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) mandated for light commercial vehicles (complementing the earlier mandating of ESC for passenger cars) and Brake Assist Systems mandated for light commercial and passenger vehicles in Australia for all new sales but there is no way you could make people add it to existing vehicles even if it was technically possible. Which it isn't for most unless it was an option on that model.

Watched the vid. How are you EU folks not marching on these bureaucrats with torches, pitchforks, tar and feathers? The International Federation of Pedestrians? Are you kidding me? What pedestrians are federating? Are there federation club meetings? Are individual pedestrians being asked to pay dues? What's next? A sensor that checks your underwear cleanliness to gauge if you're accident worthy?

Remember when you were supposed to "look both ways before you cross?"

Now it's pedestrians have the right of way and everyone else needs to stop because people who walk are better than people who drive. Well that car that stops for the pedestrian crossing has to burn fuel while idling, use more fuel to get back up to speed, and each vehicle behind has to do the same. Where I used to live, one person crossed while everyone has to yield, backs up cars for literal miles and miles trying to get thru town on a Fri/Sat/Sun. Each car has a stop a little sooner than the one in front then the intersection a few miles back gets blocked because the drivers expected more than 3 cars to make it thru, The cars in opposite directions are now blocked. Chaos. The opposite of their "goal." Best thing to reduce fuel burn is to let cars go thru to their destination and "look both ways before you cross".

And if someone tries to let the air out of my tires, well it will appear as a car jacking in my eyes, force is authorized.

Dang I had hoped for an EU delivery on this or another suv to drive around a bit before shipping over but EU sounds like it is being a nuisance to normal people. Just wanted to drive across EU and meet people eat different food, drink beer and play golf.

AND to finish my rant, in the 70s we were going into an ice age, then it was global warming, then climate change when it wouldn't keep warming or cooling. I wont bring up the climate alarmists that keep buying beach front property when in 9 years it will be underwater but I will ask, if this planet went thru a couple ice ages, then how did it ever thaw with no man or SUVs? Or did Dino have a hidden fuel guzzling engine in the Flintstone mobile?

Not normally a fan of Jalopnic, but they get into it here. They interpret the rules as being an audible notification that you’re going over the posted speed limit.

Then they say “If the car determines that it’s exceeding the current speed limit, the EU regulation allows it to respond in one of four ways: Audible warnings, haptic warnings, increased resistance on the accelerator pedal, or reduced engine power.” So who knows….

Pedestrian groups have have dictated legislation for years in Europe, particularly with vehicle design. Look at the bumper / fender inserts they have to put on the wrangler to sell it there.

No where has any mention been made about the new mandatory speed limiter that has to be fitted to all new EU cars from July 2022 and retrofitted into all other cars by 2024.
I do hope this is not going to be some sort of bolt on afterthought of a box on the Grenadier and how does this even work if you are off road?.
These boxes apart from limiting your speed will also be recording your driving all the time as well, basically black boxes for your car.
Bet insurance companies and law enforcement agencies will want access to these as well, just nothing has been mentioned yet and I haven't seen anyone ask this question yet if this could happen.
Your thoughts apart from the obvious which would be filled with expletives!
The intelligent speed assistant ISA is mandatory for all new vehicle types from July 6, 2022. ISA will then be mandatory in all new cars from July 7, 2024. That means all new vehicle types which have received a new type approval since July 06, 2022. And they must be in all new cars from July 7 2024 on. But no car, which was sold before July 7 2024 must be retrofitted.

I was heading south on I-95 north of baltimore for speeding, something like 10 over moving with traffic. out of state plate. got back on the highway at the posted 55mph and was getting passed by RVs and honked at by everyone, so dangerous being the turtle. traffic generally flows as it should with occassional wreckless speeds and those exceptions are the excuse for all the other laws passed, the mandatory limiter, those vehicles will either be defeated or be the nuisance unless you make all cars retrofit a speed limiter. then we can progress as a socialist rate, stagnant and behind everyone else. these rules are made up by lazy gov officials with no where to go and all day to get there. production and efficiancy are not needed as they just raise more revenue with taxes. gov officials should be relagated to bicycles or feet while us producers can get on about our way to keep things running and continue to feed the "machine"

I haven't read anything on this anywhere but know you are correct because it would simply be impossible to fit it to any vehicle that doesn't have wheel speed sensors, cruise control or ABS etc. You would effectively be rewiring the vehicle, which would cost thousands and take many years to complete.

I cruised up the highway yesterday to my holiday home mostly doing 120-130kmh in the 110kmh zones. Sometimes in the 100kmh zones as well. I wasn't changing lanes, except to move back over out of the fast lane where I could, or talking on my phone. I didn't tailgate anyone. Totally safe. I had to slow down as the sun was setting and the kangaroos came out to play. I passed one car on the side of the road with front end smashed in and airbags deployed. Will feel a lot better when I have the Grenadier with the Roo bar on it.

once got up to 135Mph in my car then my nerve went, a road you thought was strait becomes very bendy at those speedso_Oo_O.
The only time i would want to 160km/h in a Greny would be on a Eurostar train!!

The only time i would want to 160km/h in a Greny would be on a Eurostar train!!
🤔 as a German I would say that it is partly a question of habituation.

Luckily I saw this risc very early and mostly stopped driving at such speeds. Travelling speed, if in a hurry, was around 160 Kmh on the autobahn. On empty motorways I occasionally was at 200 Kmh for a short distance just to check out what's possible. For the rest, hardly more than 130 Kmh on highways to make distance.


... and sometimes 140 Kmh on country roads when overtaking. ;-)

But in the end I decided to buy my Diesel motorbike with a Vmax of 105 Kmh. That finally solved the problem.

I totally disagree. I have done two advanced driver training courses and drive a vehicle that is designed to cruise on the autobahn. However I have found that most of the drivers in Italy and Germany understand how to drive at speed and how to manage lanes. You do have to be focused and not distracted. I drove in Germany at 220kmh but in Italy in a Fiat 500 I stopped at 150kmh because the car wasn't capable of more. I hired a Fiat Panda and stopped at 130kmh. In Australia most drivers pick a lane and stay in it. Then you get drivers that say " I am doing 110kmh and I will not let anyone passed" If the laws and drivers would let me the roads are suitable for 180kmh easily or more. I draw the line at 150-160kmh.

Actually I do not think that you really disagree. Emax referred to speeding with a motorcycle. This is of course something else than speeding with a car. Most motorcycles might behave like the Fiats you mentioned. So it’s just smart to reduce the speed.

Actually I do not think that you really disagree. Emax referred to speeding with a motorcycle. This is of course something else than speeding with a car. Most motorcycles might behave like the Fiats you mentioned. So it’s just smart to reduce the speed.
Hi. Yes I often misunderstand what @emax says as he is old and tends to ramble on. I think I will need to meet with him one day with a beer and some food to try to understand him more clearly. I think this will be a pleasant experience.
