Grenadier Servicing Price Australia

So my car is finally in with the SA dealer for warranty work and it's 30K service, let's see how it goes...

First thing that came up was the oil leaks, I've had oil leaking from the bottom of the bell housing prior to the first service, was suspected to be the main seal but never got fixed, just had to putting in 1L every 5K to keep it topped up. A couple of moths ago oil use went up big time and there is oil covering the hot side of the engine. Dealer has found a split hose to the turbos and now says that's the only source of the oil leak. Think they're trying to get out of doing the main seal... I've put 7L of oil into it in 12 months, I think that's more than the actual oil capacity.

Next up cooling system, when I dropped it in it was overfilled (trying to pour a 5L container of water in using a phone for light at 10pm a couple of days earlier), they said this was why it wasn't working. I've put 7L into the right side reservoir over the past 12 months, maybe call it 6.5L with overfills, and this is only for the drivers side reservoir. Clearly a leak somewhere in the cooing system.

Front diff pinion seal, got asked if it's really an issue. The diffs aren't supposed to use oil at all, I've used 2.3L over 12 months while they only hold 2.1L, yeah, it's an issue!

And the entire HVAC system needs to be replaced, which requires the entire interior to be stripped. 1 thing the Grenadier had over a 70 series was inferior build quality, I hope the cabin is as good as it was when I bought it after this...

Many minor things to get sorted, it's an early build car so expected this but 1.5Y wait!

And while they gave me a loan car I went to take it out today and had battery warnings flash up, had 43% charge, after some driving and 1.5 hours of idling on my driveway only got to 51% charge, not counting on it starting tomorrow...

Cheers

Urk! Yours sounds like a Late Friday build.

Clearly a bad situation that needs a thorough explanantion and sort out.

Could be a case of a few little early build issues, which I accept but would have expected to be fixed ASAP, not getting addressed by the dealer when found or requested for 18 months and have just compounded.

My big concern is component life, all good saying you've got a 5 or 10 year warranty or whatever, but have I already done 5-10 wear on them because of the cooling/lubrication issues? And will I have an engine or diff let go that shouldn't after warranty because of it? Or will they prematurely let go in the middle of nowhere stranding me somewhere?

Soo...

My car has been with the dealer for 2 weeks now, no real update on anything, found more problems than I knew about when I took it in and some pre existing problems seem to be getting passed off to new problems, which I know they aren't...

Not getting many updates. Actually none unless I call. No idea of where my vehicle currently sits... Was going to be without it for up to 2 weeks, it's now over 2 weeks and looking like this long again at least...

Did get a loan car though, improvement on how I was treated by Ford with my Everest! But... 1st car's battery was depleting, each day I got in it with 10% less than it had the morning before, on the off-road/electrical screen you could see it was getting next to no charge. A week in I got up to go to work and it was dead, the doors unlocked but that appeared to be the last charge it had left in it, couldn't lock it again. So had that picked up and given another. 2nd with the same problems! Had to jump it today, and it does charge OK (unlike the 1st), but still loses power when off. No idea what's going on here! Both have the dual battery system, nothing plugged into them, not even a USB phone charger, but are killing their battery (batteries) within a week despite doing a few 100KM of driving!

Just got a Customer Satisfaction survey from Ineos in the mail. I'm about to write a lengthy summary of just how BAD the servicing and repair side of things has been here in South Australia. Not that I think it will change anything, but at least I'll feel better. 😟

I'm sure Justin H is well aware of the grief. And he does seem like someone who cares and acts as positively as he is empowered/able to do.

Sucks hey, great car with a lot of potential with it's reputation ruined by shit agents/dealers...

I thought the Bridgewater crowd in SA was as bad as it would get after the Fullarton operation closed down, boy was I wrong!

Port Adelaide has had my car for 5 weeks now, don't see it coming back in the next 1-2 weeks.

Loan cars (Grenadiers) they've given me have been terrible, first a mid milage demo but with electrical issues (and all it's service warning flashing at start up), ended up dying on my. Second (low KM demo) full of electrical issues too, I'm jumping it one day to get it going and parking it with 20% battery only to have 70% battery the next morning. Makes no sense!

I actually got one of these too, some time last week, it was in the pile of mail my wife not so strategically places around the house that only she knows of until I find it...

Found it Monday so scanned the QR last night and got it rolling, then had the call to go through everything today...

Told them that I do really like the car, it does as what is advertised, arguably better than expected, and that later build cars don't seem to have the early build issues mine has which I expected. However I expected these early build issues to be addressed ASAP, which were while we had our Fullarton agent/dealer and this has not been the case since the agent/dealer moved to Bridgewater and then Port Adelaide...

As for service, told them the Fullarton agent/dealer was great but Bridgewater was hopeless and my experience with Port Adelaide has been arguably worse...

Sales, Fullarton was great when I had my car delivered! I haven't bought one since but from what I've heard Bridgewater useless, people walked out having not even being able to speak with a salesperson. I told them I knew the agent/dealer was changing so hold off on going for the alternatives but they weren't a whole lot more impressed with Port Adelaide. In the end they decided to go with other vehicles based on their experience, 1 of those was after 2, a wagon and a dual-cab.

Final question, would I recommend the Grenadier to friends or family? Yes and no, great car if it's what you're after, but I wouldn't buy one in SA with the agent/dealers we've had since Fullarton, I wouldn't have had I known the after sales service would go downhill like this...

Back to servicing though, initially Port Adelaide agreed to do the 30K service for free out of goodwill, given they had already screwed me around multiple times with the warranty work, how it was going, and the fact that half the service would have been undertaken completing the warranty work.

But they've changed their mind, they now want me to pay full price ($840) for a service... Not going to happen, I've got all the parts and fluids to have it done so my local Bosch service centre will do it for hourly rates, even with what I've spend on parts and fluids it will come in for much less to have a full service done (parts of which will be doing what Port Adelaide should have done). I'll also have them look over the warranty work undertaken due to my lack of confidence in Ineos servicing/warranty work...

So final problem, resetting the service interval alarm, apparently can't be done by anyone other than Ineos, and Port Adelaide won't do it unless they do the service by the sounds of it. Might be some legal issues here as in AUS we can have any accredited mechanic do log book servicing, and even Justin H has said in interviews that you can do it yourself without voiding the warranty as long as you can prove you know what you're doing, which was kind of a selling point of the vehicle, along with owners being provided service/workshop manuals etc. which hasn't happened...
