Bypass the nanny features of the off road lights and keep that switch

For background I am referring to the off-road lights that are in the front of the truck and are activated by being in off road mode and having the high beams in addition to the switch.

I have seen many threads about those off road lights and replacing them and using one of the EXT wires in the hood area.

I would rather use the existing wiring and find a way to bypass the nanny features. Otherwise you are have that switch and the wiring not being used. Where is the relay that controls that and is it deep in the ECU or is it possible to bypass.

For example you can bypass the nanny features of the NATO plug by bypassing the relay in the rear. This was discussed elsewhere. Creating a live plug that is only controlled by the switch and not disabled at driving speeds.

You just need to know how they control that nanny function. It could be as simple as connected to high beam but it also requires the off road switch. That tells me that the brains of that is probably the off road switch with a contribution from the high beams. One could run a wire from that switch all the way forward but that is a lot of work.

There has to be someone on here who already figured this out.

OK, now I found two threads about this.

Back to the original question...has anyone found a solution to just bypassing the nanny feature? I too would like to keep the off road light switch function in the factory location but do not want to be forced to go to off road mode and hit the high beams. If I want to turn on just the off roads for some temp lighting of an area just to see what is there, would be soooo nice to just hit the original light switch without the other four steps.

We should be able to use the button itself? Just bypass the wiring and wire up the button to a brand new circuit?
Seems like it shouldn't be ridiculously hard to do.

Both buttons are on my list. But I don’t have a light bar yet, and only use the grill lights in off-road mode.
🤷‍♂️

Is it safe to assume the switches go to an Integrated circuit which is what controls the Nanny functions. Seems likely from what we have seen from Ineos so far.

Reach out to Buzz they have the Rigid kit, in their install video they mention difference between U.S. spec and EU spec requiring different harness... converting from U.S. to EU spec maybe HW / SW / Both they might be able to guide you,

Not trying to rub salt into any wounds but the off road lights in my Grenadier (UK Diesel commercial spec basically a Trialmaster without the snorkel) work without being in off-road mode. You just flick the switch and they stay on no matter what mode you are in.

Not sure if that is something to do with UK spec being different from US or just another of those little Ineos quirks that we have all learned to live with and love.

It's a reg difference - US spec cars require he vehicle to be in off road mode to light the off road lights. Just another stupid nonstandard build requirement like very similar but not quite the same length for wiper blades or varying fire retardant interior materials. Not sure whose gov't is the bigger nanny...I think its a tie. I mean really, do we all not want the safest cars worldwide??? Can't theses regulators just agree on one standard for this stuff? Imagine how that would help keep mfg costs lower!

Couldn't agree more about a single standard being something to aim at - my wife and children are US nationals, although we all live in the UK, so we have always spent a fair amount of time with our family in NJ. There is no appreciable difference from the consumers perspective in the quality of US and UK / European cars, food, housing or anything else despite the fact that they are all produced to different standards and regulations. That said US planning / building regs seem to produce nicer housing than their UK equivalent and the UK definitely produces better cheese than that which is available in the US (without going to specialist retailers)

Just so i'm not confused...

Your solution to the US government nanny, is form a larger global organization nanny.

Interesting.
