Two attachment points on the OEM B58 engine cover failed on my G. During a recent visit to the dealership, I asked whether a new engine cover would be covered under warranty. The dealership’s response was, “No, but we would be happy to order a new one for you at a cost of approximately $700.”
My answer: “No, thank you.”
I was able to source a BMW B58 engine cover for about one-quarter of the dealership’s price. It’s not an Ineos Grenadier cover, but I actually prefer the look compared to the OEM version. It just arrived, and it’s an exact match—including the insulation—and fits like a glove.
We do have less expensive options available and in this case it has a BMW warranty. For reference:
BMW B58 Engine Cover Part Number: 11-14-8-676-205 (2020–2024 BMW models)
The dealership also offered to replace the engine cover retaining pins for $400. Again, “Thank you, but no.” The retaining pins did not need replacement. For reference, the retaining pin costs about $5.00 each.
BMW Retaining Pin Part Number: 11-12-7-643-221 (2016–2024 BMW models)
