Build Thread Auxiliary USB charging point in auxiliary footwell power point

Powerwerx makes good quality 12V->USB chargers both panel mount and surface mount.

Excellent! Thank you. This surface mount appears to be a good choice if I do not want to alter the panel.

It appears that I can just wire it directly with a 12 AWG wire into the Deutsch DTP connector. Do you happen to know if that’s correct? Not sure if I need some sort of converter or fuse in between the two…

Hi AnD3rew, any chance i could get the stl file for this?
love the idea!
I will see if my son can send to me, but I have to be honest that he was going to come back and tidy it up, but he got busy with university and it really needs a 3D scanner to get it right. It works but it isn’t a perfect fit and needs a better retention system.

How did you open the side dashboard panel?

The LhD driver side trim panel, if that is what you are asking about, just pulls straight back towards the seat. The rectangular holes in these pictures give you an indication of where the clips are. I just used my fingers to ease it loose. It uses wedge clips that are unlikely to get damaged as long as you don’t twist it. You can ease it out from the door weather stripping no problem.
Like others, I mounted a circular USB charger that is completely hidden by the end trim piece. I tapped it into one of the two 12V/15A socket fuses documented in the owners manual. The USB PD charger calls for a 7.5A fuse.

I stuck a Mous MagSafe charger on the dash, next to the infotainment console. This position lets you glance at screen without looking down. You can also register your hand against the infotainment console when tapping the phone.
