Australia: Battery drain problems

Just for info and not in any way a complaint due to the now accepted design and alternator/emission requirements….
I drive from the near top of N Island to near bottom of S Island over three days each year and then back 8 weeks later. I’ve only ever seen 90% (and it didn’t stay like that for long 🤣) SOC and pretty constant 1/2 amps charging status.

Mine is now always around 65%, and only charging 1-2A, is that normal? Even after long rides, it barely gets up to 70%.

My experience is this is legitimately an issue. I was told it’s only an approximate, the dash is wrong blah blah. But I knew I had lost battery life off road camping from about 3 days to 1 day with comparable use. It was super slow to charge or it didn’t at all. 7hr drive and it would only get to 70% then basically stop (1-2A and no increase on battery).
Then I put on dual battery monitors to prove the voltage issues and it showed clearly my primary battery had issues with low voltage. Overnight (24-48hr) direct charges to battery with a 5amp smart charger sometimes helped, but eventually it goes back to same issues. Charging under bonnet points never seemed to help me.

Obviously there’s challenges with the dual batteries and the only real solution I can find is to go aftermarket, swap it out and put in a fit for purpose solution. I go remote regularly and can’t afford the risks…
