What Rocksliders / Side Steps did you choose

In March 2025 I ordered the Buzz Overland from OK4WD, just waiting for the email that they are stateside.
I ordered my Buzz Overland steps from them as well back in March. I called OK4WD yesterday to see what the holdup was. Apparently, Buzz had a switch over with manufacturing equipment for their welding. Not sure how true that is, but that’s what I was told. They said that they should be arriving here sometime near the end of July since they left port and are on a boat.

Yea, those are pretty cool looking. I am just looking for just a tad but more of a step. Not a lot, just some more. Hard to find ones that compete with Buzz Overland or Blacksheep ones from what I'm seeing. I cant even find a negative experience for the Buzz Overland ones.
I have a set of the Buzz Overland sliders. I’d give them 4 out of 5 stars. That last star I hold back for 2 reasons:
1) The driver side required clearancing of two holes on the front mount to achieve proper installation.
2) The stainless steel washers provided were way too thin. Some of the holes are oversized to allow for ease of installation and properly aligning. That means the washer is only contacting the mounting plate on the outer edge of the washer. I ended up buying larger/thicker washers and scrapping the ones they sent.

Overall I think they are the best looking and most functional due to the integrated step. It’s a 95% on-road commuting daily driver so the step functionality is hugely important for me.

I built some steps to start with as I could not find any sliders that I liked or were easily accessible until I found these:
They look vaguely like the Abenteuer 4x4 sliders, but a bit lower and with a center frame mount.

How do you like these in terms of daily function? Does it assist you in stepping at all, or do you just by pass it all the time? I looked into those, and wanted to confirm if they're frame mounted? I love how they look very similar to the Agile Offroad ones, but the AO ones are body mounted and I just don't want to deal with that.

Can you elaborate on number 1? I am slightly confused on this. Are you saying there weren't holes present, or they were mis aligned? How was it fixed? Keeping things loose and then tightening little by little?

Have you taken them off road or beat them up? If so, any issues?

I really like the Buzz sliders! I just wish they did not cost so much!

Those sliders look pretty cool! I have a few question if you don't mind answering?
1. Have you experienced any grip or slipping issues with them while stepping if it's covered in mud or water/ snow? They look kind of slick. I do like the design and profile.
2. Why did you choose to go with Carbon Steel over Stainless? The weight is quite a bit more than some competitors, If not double per step and in total. Theres always a balance of protection and weight, but I'm genuinely just curious.
3. If these get dinged up pretty bad due to skids and such, how are these able to be touched up? Stripped raw and re coated? Touch up paint?

I called it out to them in the CONTACT US page and told them (cut and pasted it since never saw that myself before mentioned here).... They just called me and said they couldnt see it...so walked them to it online and said it definitely does not attach to frame and dont want people buying them expecting that or using for anything other than a slider. So at least they called...talked with me and said would be editing that portion of the description Overview.
Their goal was high clearance, absolutely smooth sliding surface on bottom, could be used as step....and look OEM and of course protecting the body sill from slamming on rocks and debris. I would say they met those goals.... Good conversation.....
I'm certainly looking forward to any off road reports/ testimonials from you while using these. I still have a good 6 months to make a decision on sliders before my delivery!

Agile was definitely going for clearance, and those look fine enough.

Abentuer also makes ones that use the frame mounts, but tuck up high (requires removing the plastic trim)

These would seem to be an “ideal” choice for those looking for high clearance, but frame mounting using the factory locations. Price is certainly higher. Haven’t seen many reviews on these. Has anyone had experience?

I like them. I beat the piss out of them on a trail yesterday and they are holding up great. I don't use a step to get into the truck, but I use them all the time accessing the roof rack. It's not a large step, just enough to work. I usually open the doors to have a bigger step since you can only really get your toes on there when the doors are closed. Here's my post from when I mounted them.

I have not had to use them yet, but they are very stout, and being stainless steel, if/when they catch a rock, it won’t rust.

The issue was the holes in the mounting plate didn’t quite line up with the threaded holes in the frame. It was about 1/2” off. So it was a combination of clearancing the hole a little bit and prying with a big crow bar after loosening up all the other bolts.

Hi Slov,

To answer your questions:

1. The cross pattern provides a great platform that still maintains grip in slippery conditions!
2. Carbon steel cuts with a sharper/cleaner edge on our plasma table and is the stronger of the two materials, depending on its sub-model.
3. Our sliders and steps are heavily powder coated, but in a scenario where you may want to touch them up, touch-up paint is easily accessible and works great. If they really are bad and you want them refurbished to new, it is recommended to strip and re-powder them.

I just added the CA Tuned sliders yesterday. The install wasn’t too bad to do solo and it was a complete bolt-on job that didn’t require the removal of anything. The biggest issue I had was trying to get the bolts to seat properly. On the drivers side I had to pull out the bottle jack to lift the slider into place. I love the look and feel bad for the first car that opens their door a little too forcefully. :)

Awesome, thanks you guys. I will certainly consider these once my Grenadier comes in!
