Does anyone know if there are spring rate/roll bar differences between the 2023 Fieldmaster without a towbar and the 2023 Utility vehicles with a factory specified tow bar?

I ask this as after nearly 6 months not driving a Grenadier, I find my new to me Fieldmaster much more prone to roll than I remember my Utility truck.

Does sticking a tow bar on a Fieldmaster need a spring rate change as part of a conversion to a "factory" installation?

That’s interesting. I do remember reading that there are about 5 different rear springs according to vehicle spec. I assume the rear ARB is the same too but perhaps not.

Does it feel harder at the back than your old one?

There is a very early thread on spring ratings, with a table, somewhere in the forum. Now that you jog my memory I think a factory fitted tow bar may increase the rear spring rating. The factory fitting of the winch definitely increased the front spring rating.

It would make sense that rear spring ratings were increased. If front springs are higher rated for carrying a winch, I would thought being able to deal with a heavy nose weight, would require the same. Fortunately, springs are relatively cheap.

There is the thread, takes a bit of wading through. Oops. 😬

On my US vehicle with factory tow package double red triangle springs were specified which I think are somewhere near the middle of the range of the options available spring rate wise on the rear. Part number is visible in the picture below if that helps.

I have a 2023 NI Commercial Grenadier (5 seat) with a front winch fitted - basically Trialmaster spec but without the GI Joe snorkel. It tows brilliantly. As well as the old 100 series Diesel Landcruiser Amazon which is the benchmark in my view in the UK.

For a couple of months I had a 2024 Fieldmaster with a tow hitch whilst the garage sorted a problem with mine. It towed terribly and with 3.5 tons on the back got really light on the front steering at over about 30mph. I was told by the dealer (no longer a dealer) that the cars fitted with a front winch had stiffer springs fitted than those without.

No idea if what I was told was was correct but the springs on the Fieldmaster that I had were too soft for the vehicle to be of any use towing a loaded livestock trailer.

Petrol or diesel Fieldmaster? I have the diesel and no issues with the front end when towing.

You could ask the parts department if the springs fitted to your old car have the same part number as your new vehicle. Assuming you still have your old vin number.

There were a lot of different spring rates fitted.
I just fitted the 30mm lift ones, they are much stiffer, I'd say less body roll despite the extra height.
I didn't find the oem ones too rolly, I just felt i could do with something stiffer when my winch bumper eventually arrives.
