Supra Shifter installed

Functionally speaking, The Supra shifter is narrower than the stock shifter, so I think the volume knob would be easier to access if I'm not mistaken. Aesthetics alone make this worth doing imo but if I can access the volume knob easier, that's an added plus. Ordering.

See?!? I'm not the only Renoir vs Cezanne or whatever painter I mentioned in a previous post who is like, what's with that shifter?!?. Even his friends are saying, yeah, what's with the sissy shifter?!? (Note I'm using the full on "?!?" everywhere). I mean, will you lose friends over the shifter?!? Maybe, do you want to take that chance?!?.

What's with the signet ring and 2 huge watches?
What a sissy ;)
Wouldn't last a minute round these parts.

I started my Supra shifter install this morning I thought I would beat the heat but the IG gods had other plans. Apparently or perhaps the BMW shifter was placed with great intention and I'm not supposed to trifle with it.

The disassembly of the Supra shifter was straightforward enough until I got to the ribbon. I actually used a fingernail to pop the cover off of the Supra shifter to avoid scratching it (even with a panel tool). When it came time to pull the ribbon out of the shifter I somehow separated the clip from the ribbon slot.

After a bit of trial-and-error I got it to go back where it belonged but it wasn't locking in as I imagined it should and it fell off each time I pulled it up. Wondering what this might mean going forward I put the clip in the shut position and without reassembling the shifter put the ribbon in place with the clip in place. It went in and felt solidly seated, but for how long on the trail.

After a good bit of thought I decided to do what any red-blooded American boy would do and put a very little dab of super glue on it with the emphasis on very little on either side of the clip where I imagine it should clip in to the connector.

By the time I got this all worked out it was nearly a 100° here on the West Coast and it was time to go insde and rewatch the Owl video to try and fugure out whether I broke the clip or the IG gods were being vengful for my insolance. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Oh... In the shifter video John carefully fishes the ribbon under and behind the circut board on reassembly. The circut board slips out of the shifter and is easily slipped in with the circut board out.

So? Everything back up and working?
Wishing you every success as this mod is slowly climbing my list of ‘Must have’s’.

It got too hot to be in the garage / vehicle by noon here in the West. My hope is to remove the BMW shifter assembly gently and reassemble it on the Toyota base and offer it up to the Supra crowd.

If it doesn't go back together no big deal but getting this back together is straightforward, thanks for asking. 👍

I’d be curious how you take apart the Grenadier shifter w/o damaging it. Allegedly the face is glued on (John/Owl).

Dental floss, thread it around and slowly saw it off.
100%, a bit of heat and gentle persuasion running floss through the gap. John's time is valuable and the video has paid for 100 shifters at this point so "Hulk smash" is a fun default. I mostly want to put it back together to say I did. If not that is ok too.
