Stuck at Cape York

I'm not reading 15 pages, and watching that guys vid's is painful, so, I'm choosing to subject you all to a completely uninformed comment...

That is... How can there be a delayed hydrolock? When I did it, it was "slurp, stall, winch, pull plugs, do the billagio fountain imitation, wd40 every fucking thin in sight, start and go. Pure luck, but that fj40 is on its 4th owner since me, and same engine I built 3 decades ago.

Whats the theory how something can hydrolock a day after it goes thru a river? Can the airbox hold a few pints without draining and then suck it in the next day? The insurance is paying out, so, something like that must have occurred. Any actual word?
Interestingly Canny makes a definite point pre damage - "all vehicles made it through the track yesterday" he basically kicks off with that statement, which to me smells fishy.
Someone in QLD posted on Cordogans video that the truth has been presented to Canny and he still went ahead with the video.
He states that they drained water from the intercooler. And had video to back the claim 🤷

There is also the edit of the video that shows three of the four crossing the river, but not the one that failed. Hiding something?

Just one more thing......

My opinion of Canny has plummeted after this episode. He has said some things that makes me question his depth of knowledge when it comes to remote travel, like the risks involved, the way to reduce said risks and making the right decision.

My impression, which may be wrong, is Arthur is new to remote travel. Nothing wrong with that, but you need to do proper training and prep. I did when I started serious remote travel over a decade ago and I am still learning.

I think there a lot of nieviety from John posting the video and not thinking of the repercussions and Arthur who seemingly went along for the ride.
I started when I was 17 (Gibb RiverRd) , now some 43 years later I'm still learning.
But not posting on social media 🙄

You might have more luck posting that here:

Yeah have seen, but insanely expensive

Yep, this is where I am at with John. I think he's a genuinely nice bloke who got in over his head with YouTube and thought it would be a good idea to combine his hobbies and play videographer for this club trip.
I don't think John ever intended to become the villain of this misadventure. I think he got caught in the drama of creating YouTube content and bombed. John is a forum member and I hope he's ok.

As an old project director of mine would say "Never give someone credit for a conspiracy when it's just a good old fashioned *uckup."

If there was a tiny amount of experience in the group this thread would never have happened….
Deep river crossing, ah we are remote lets not induce any issues, let the cars cool down for 10-15 so brakes don’t sizzle and diffs don’t suck in all the H2o
While the cars cool down lets dip the toes and check it out, mmm definitely deep
Let’s spend 5 minutes putting a tarp around the front of the car to keep water out
Done

Indeed, he has had a few misadventures since he bought his IG, and when I look back at them, he was not slow at jamming one up Ineos.
The Pascoe River crossing on the Frenchman’s track is not for novices. The way they handled it, they were all novices.
I would love to do the Frenchman’s (it is close to home), but am waiting for the likes of Safari Snorkels to produce a sealed RAI.
I am still forever in debt to John, for his video on his UHF install.

Having had older Porsches you would convince yourself, reading forums, they are all about to grenade their engines due to bore scoring and set aside £10K for a rebuild. Similar with wet belt engines, Ingenium etc etc
As my old Dad used to say - this weeks headlines are next weeks chip wrappers. I feel that if you are using YT as an income stream (10K ,100Ks etc subscribers) you want the drama for clicks.
I feel sorry for Arthur as his story is being magnified well beyond getting his situation resolved

Seems like “victim shaming” for something that almost is a PSA. Different take-away for different filters but I’m certain that those in the video wanted to convey a message…maybe it should have a warning “don’t watch this video if your triggered by X, Y, Z. “.

On another note, I’ve had $10’s of thousands in repair due to vermin (several cars ). I’ve heard that the wiring’s contains a sugar or something that attracts these little devils.

Solution: stocking filled with dog fur. Haven’t had an issue since. For the nicer cars you can use a shear with a seem up the back :)

After him posting the original video where Arthur's truck broke down, comments were coming in all the time on Youtube asking for what the hell happened, what was the outcome. So my guess on why he put the video up, unwisely IMHO, was that he felt he needed to give his followers an update.

I’d like to give John Canny and Arthur the benefit of the doubt. But I have a lot of questions. I don’t think it’s fair on them to speculate on why they released the video or why they subsequently removed it.
Since the start of my own YT channel I have become aware of the sheer volume of haters and fan boys out there. A video like that was always going to put a cat amongst the pigeons.
I guess we’ll find out eventually.
I am still sticking to the water ingress theory as I can’t see any other logical explanation. The dealership in question must have presented some pretty robust evidence to say that the damage was environmental otherwise the insurance would not have paid out. In my experience insurers don’t pay out unless they really have to.
