Statistics/Poll Thread: Front driveshaft CV joint failures

I'm no engineer but always surprised how shallow the splines are when I look at them.

your boot looks similar to my rip
In my case it wasn’t the boot that failed first I understand. The vehicle was in for a service two weeks prior to the failure and nothing was picked up. It was only 300 to 400miles after that when the failure happened. The explanation from the dealer was that the C clip failed.

I only noticed my rip when I was manipulating it. I think when in situ the only way you can be sure boot is ok is with a good ol' feel rather than just visual. Especially if not rotating the shafts.

I'm still not certain what failed first on mine. Also with a working slip joint wonder what forces caused the splined end to exit it's housing when pulling slowly out of a junction, had the circlip just failed..?
 
Would the heavy corrugations encounted frequently on Australian out back roads excessively shorten CV life or boot life even at standard height?
Well then Ineos has a problem as the car should be build for these types of toads
