I've been looking around for what I'll do for snow this winter. I'll be heading to the mountains a lot more often- a few times a month. Almost all of it will be paved and plowed- bit not always. Part of the drive is paved pass at over 11,000 feet. There was wicked black ice from fog on it already recently.

My current KO3s are triple peak rated, and in general snow last year around town they were fine. Really more worried about ice this time. Was looking into specialized winter tires, and probably studded to get the bigger difference from the KO3s, and give me the best performance. It seems the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 SUV studded winter tire seems to one of the better rated? I see there are more size option in the Nokian LT3 studded series. How do these compare to the Hakkapeliitta 10 SUV tires? A bit heavier duty/

Do I go with the standard size 265/70R17 or same size as my 285/70R17. Maybe the smaller to cut snow better?

What dedicated snow tires are people running?
