Americas Winter tires: Michelin X Ice or Blizzaks?

What are the specs on the rims we need for the IG? I think I’m going to go with steelies again. I don’t A whole different set. Is that smart, or use one set of rims and swap tires? Are there good and bad steelies? It seems like Discount Tire had it so that it was pretty cheap either way?

Swapping tires on and off rims each season isn't great for your tires and the labor cost will quickly eat up savings of not buying wheels. If I were going to run winter tires I'd pick up a set of used OEM steelies that someone upgraded to aftermarket.

That’s what I thought. Especially if I’m looking at steel wheels and not expensive aluminum rims. Talking to my dealer to see if they have any spare ones around. I might just do a swap this time and then have my KO threes put on new rims when I have time in the spring.

As mentioned by @BEM-S4, not a good idea to take the tires on and off - you should have dedicated rims for your winter tires - swap the whole wheel out. I have the steelies for the main part of the year and Black Rhino alloys for the winter. Personally, I prefer a winter wheel that will not cake so much. I thought the steelies got a lot of snow and ice buildup, before I switched to dedicated winter wheels (with coaching from this Forum). Maybe like the AO HD’s. Or maybe Method 703’s or 701’s - just something that has open space on the face. I also have the Owl bracket relocator for the spare, since in winter, I go face out (the spare storage box doesn’t fit in the back face of my black Rhino’s). I believe Discount Tire also sells Black Rhino alloys- and they can reset the TPMS sensors for you when they swap the wheels. The whole process is really simple, and they store the wheels you’re not using in a climate controlled warehouse.

I live in Colorado Springs, where we get hot sunny days in the middle of winter, and then 3 feet of snow the next day. Honestly, I have no issues running KO2s on both my Jeep and the Grenadier. The stock tires are remarkable and totally adequate.

Thank you for rubbing that in right as we head into winter. “In Colorado, we have 30 lb trout that leap into our nets, our driveways never accumulate ice and our flatulence is a rainbow that smells like a fresh spring meadow.”
