As mentioned in another post of mine, we're currently working on a solution that will allow the rearview camera to be displayed in full screen. Below is an image of what that will look like.

We already have the necessary development vehicle, and we're hard at work.
In this thread, we'll take you on the development journey and let you participate.

The core features we are planning:
Full-screen rear view camera
Optional front camera
Optional side camera
Optional fourth camera
Optional HDMI interface for connecting a Raspberry Pi or Fire TV Stick, for example
OEM rear view camera connection (possibility still pending)
All cameras as AHD 1080p cameras, but at least HD 720p cameras
Auto trigger for front camera
Select panel for manually selecting each camera
Plug and play installation
Designed as a shipping item
E-mark to enable legal operation (necessary for EU)
Cameras with IP69k protection class to safely enable rough off-road operation
If anyone notices something they'd like to have, please let us know, and we'll look into whether it's feasible. We're currently in the process of determining the position of the passenger-side camera. I'll call it the embankment camera for now. Below you can see two images of what we have in mind. One clearly shows the front right wheel. The other shows the passenger side. Please disregard the image quality. Both the cameras and our test monitor are limited and are not the final product. This is merely a matter of the image section.

Which of these do you find the more interesting picture?

Love your work! With the side camera I would go for the front wheel in view as I can pick up the mid and rear side view in the mirrors. Will this work on both versions of the head units (original and newer versions)?

This is an interesting project. Thank you for your efforts.

Wolfbox got a lot of requests to add a front mounted trailcam to show the view ahead of the vehicle. Not that you should copy Wolfbox, but the user interest is there.

Another common feature request was to add a rear vision camera that could be mounted on the back of a caravan/camper/trailer. That could be a wireless or cable connection.
Of course if you add all of those channels you're probably close to delivering a 360 degree view.

You haven't mentioned a recording feature but that seems like a logical extension unless you want to stay away from the dashcam market.

I think image version 2 is more useful.

Wow! Thanks for all the fast and very helpful input!

Let me answer to all your questions.
@Shopkeep Will this work on both versions of the head units (original and newer versions)?
We don´t see any differenes from hardware point of view. We already seen brand new cars which comes more or less direct from the factory to us and there is the same headunit and screen installed than in older cars. So I think it´s no problem.

@Clark Kent Another common feature request was to add a rear vision camera that could be mounted on the back of a caravan/camper/trailer. That could be a wireless or cable connection.
Adding a Trailer cam is possible with the planned 4. cam input. Let´s say the 4. cam input is free to use. You can put a cam whereever you want and connect it to the system. From our point of view it makes no sense to offer a trailer kit as plug and play because of the big differences between the trailers. But when we did such a job we always use wired connections because of the much better system stability.

Of course if you add all of those channels you're probably close to delivering a 360 degree view.
A real 360 degree system is always operating with a central unit which put the 4 pictures together in realtime to have a real surround view without any split in the corners. Also in most case there is only a tp view available. If we like to use a surround view system incl. the option to choose every cam single for a classic view we have to add around 3k-4k extra to the whole poduct. I think this too much. And. The system have to calibrate after the install. It´s not possible to pre calibrate such a system before the install. Calibrating a surround view system exactly can be a very frustating job. :D

You haven't mentioned a recording feature but that seems like a logical extension unless you want to stay away from the dashcam market.
If you add a record system it´s not possible to choose every cam single. Also we have very very hard data privacy restrictions for dashcams in the EU. If you add such a system without the matching product features no european court will accept the pictures as a proof. Btw. Wolfbox records are also not allowed in the EU because of the missing data privacy features. But if you like you can add a record system by yourself. It´s possible.

@oldblueeyes Is this going to be a full replacement infotainment screen or an add-on?
It´s an blackbox add-on between the display and the headunit. Replacing the OEM screen is not possible.

@Brad@SuperiorCO As the display is a touch screen (but not multi-touch) how about a +/- Zoom button?
Not possible.

Thanks for the first input from all of you. We will go for the wheel screen option.

Very interesting !
Considering I'm waiting for a wolfbox at the moment (the tri camera one isn't yet available in Australia)
I may just wait for this!!
