Power steering noise

Hello everyone;) I was finally able to pick up my grenadier yesterday🥳 Unfortunately, I noticed at home that my power steering makes a strange noise. I think it's not a normal noise, or? The filling level in the container was at maximum with the engine warm but switched off. The German instructions do not say exactly in which condition the oil should be checked. Does anyone have an idea? I tried to post a video but I always see the file is too big (7mb)
Thank you;)

So the difference in fluid between min and max is 54.5 ml. What if the overflow capacity is in the cap itself?

I should also note, with this type of setup my research revealed that once air is in the system it doesn't leave nearly as quickly as a system with a return line to the tank. That is due to "excess" oil being recirculated back into the suction side of the pump. So simply adding more oil isn't necessarily going to fix the whine once it has started. And in theory if air has entered the system topping the oil could create more head pressure and as a result make cavitation worse. I have 3d printed a new reservoir cap with an inspection port for my bore scope so will be interesting to record the results. Luckily the scope is long enough I can drive and record.

That's because I just made that cad drawing 😉
I would make the cap slightly bigger. The extension cap you previously viewed had an extra 4.5 fluid ounce head room.

Good luck!!!

Fair. And as to good luck I really think it could be easy to resolve with a correct service procedure. This would require Ineos to create a pump bleed function. But I am a believer in solutions, and often they aren't easy to find. But it's better than bitching and when you do find the solution it's rewarding if nothing else. And... This vehicle is all about free market solutions...IMNHO.

Lots of great chat (and legit guessing) here about the PSP whistle, but does anyone actually know what the root cause is and how to effectively address it??? If so, would love to get pointed to that part of thread.

I have only had my IG for just over a month and TBH, that PSP whistling drives me flippin' nuts and is an embarrassment to the brand. I guess I didn't notice it on the test drive so my bad. But I had a courtesy IG while I had the software updated and the loaner did not make the noise.

Don't get me wrong, I love love love this vehicle through and through...except for that. As stated above, in drive-thrus, off roading with windows down, or just the snide remark from a passer by..."awesome four-by...are you making tea under the hood (bonnet) there dude?" I really hope INEOS is looking for a fix here rather than relying on the user group to re-engineer something. I've been an early adopter of other cars and expect to have a few bugs so I am being patient. But please, either recall and fix this thing or maybe post a fix that those of us that are thoroughly annoyed by this flaw can handle on our own dime. Come on...how many cars are on the road with electric PSPs and none (I have heard) make this kind of nails-on-the-chalkboard squeal. It CAN'T be that hard.

I fully expect a reply something like..."don't worry newbie, you'll get use to it...hope not.

well, somethings are not worth getting used to.

Part of the community challenges is that many people have cars with different problems and seem to think everything is consistent as in most cars made around the world. The reality is that every G is different in its own special way and anyone who says 'but i dont have this problem' is just being obtuse for the sake of saying something.

Putting all that aside, i have said this before as well - get a bunch of G's together and they will have different levels of sound from the PSP's, its not consistent, its not even, its not even a thing on some of the cars. Its a thing though.

Not here to be obtuse, but I do believe that there is likely more consistency in Ineos vehicles than there is in Ineos owners.

Being slightly thick I had to google what obtuse means, then realising it means I am thick and stupid 🤣 WTF. I had to google FTW too.

Well I don’t need to be thick to realise the PSP squeals and isn’t normal.

Anyways I fixed mine in an unconventional way and it runs like an absolute dream. Well at least until the next warning light 🤞

I just stopped by my dealer and listened to three other vehicles on the the lot and tried to replicate my noise. All had a very mild and consistent hiss but nothing nearly as loud as what mine puts out. I told the service manger "hey, I WISH mine made this level of noise". Unfortunately, I was not driving my IG and will bring it back for comparison and demonstrate that I am not just bein whiney about it. I did not get a warm fuzzy that anything would be done but will certainly give them a chance. They have been super great to work with otherwise.

Skydance - How did you fix yours?
