Polyair Suspension Airbags

I had Polyair Suspension Airbags fitted to the rear springs recently. The same brand airbag is fitted to my caravan.

My car is an AU Spec Diesel Grenadier, a 2 seater fitted with a RED winch, aux fuel, roof rack and drawers. So the kerb weight is on the higher side, even in everyday use. Factory suspension is fitted with an Eibach lift kit (and now Poly Airbags).

Installer’s suggestions were:
  1. Airbags are load assist, not load bearing;
  2. Check the airbags PSI setting monthly;
  3. Minimum 20 PSI, for my car. He says the bags should fit the springs snugly. If they are under inflated, the airbags will be damaged over time;
  4. When towing inflate airbags to 40-50 PSI;
  5. Maximum PSI for the airbags is 60 PSI; and
  6. Minimum is 5 PSI, but the minimum is dependent on the weight of your car - so my minimum is 20 PSI.

Your eyesight is fine.

After I added links to my second post, I thought it made sense to add them to the first post.
 
The airbags have stopped some of the body roll when cornering - unexpected bonus. This slowly creeped up on me as I added weight to the car.

I noticed the lack of body roll when driving Rohan's car (GrenX), now the airbags have fixed this in my car.

When I visit Heasemans to have the Bilstein shocks installed, I will ask whether you inflate the airbags before or after you hitch the caravan. Someone has suggested you do this before. So inflate airbags to 40 to 50 PSI then hitch up the van as the airbags fit the springs better.
 
Doc - the increase from 20psi to 40-50psi is presumably for the tongue weight. Could this be extrapolated to account for rear cargo weight and no trailer?

I’m thinking of adding airbags for this purpose.

I am new to aribags but based on what the installer said, I would say yes.

Because of the car's weight (not towing) he said I should use 20PSI as the base PSI. When towing increase to 40-50PSI. Adjust as needed and do not go over 60PSI. It is working for me. Some more comments in the first post above.

When you add weight the P in the airbags will go up. Mine are 10psi resting ( any lower , under flexy situations the springs can dislocate from the lower point; it happened to me).
I find 40 PSI works well with a ball weight of 260kg.

And you will find some folk inflate before and some after. The forums conflict!

That is a high ball weight for a smaller van.

The Vista's ball weight maxes out around 130kg (confirmed as 130kg after checking).

Could you explain how the springs may dislocate if the airbags are under inflated. If they re completely deflated isn’t that the same as having no airbags at all ?

Under inflation will damage the airbags also, so said my installer, reinforcing the need to check each month.

I just check the airbag's PSI the first week of each month. New month means a check.

That's also a product of the Nimbus suspension / shocks which I have as well as Rohan.

Mine have the kevlar outer bag which can sag down and get caught up between the lower coils/coil bucket .
Bit like getting your trousers pulled around your ankles and you trip over!

Well getting the kevlar pants into the Goldilocks zone is what it's all about.
We mustn't overthink it, like those who believe the Goldi story was all about pre-Oedipal anality.
