Petrol or diesel ? Thanks for your help

I'd be curious to know which version is in the IG.

Having owned several i6 twin turbo BMW engines (S55/S58 - zero issues over 60K miles total), it was one of the key IG features that made me jump aboard the IG train. The powertrain is truly where the IG remains peerless next to GX, 4R, LC, LR, Jeep, etc.

Some call the B58 a modern day Toyota 2JZ. High praise, indeed.

Having driven many (8+) petrol and a few (4 odd) diesel ones, I can say with confidence that everyone recommending Petrol over the diesel are just high on petrol fumes. ( Haha ... only kidding, but not )

Get the diesel, this car and it's weight were made for diesel.

Very happy with our diesel, for us the major factors are range and tractability offroad.
Petrol does indeed seem like a good option in your circumstances.

They are a very different driving experience, particularly on the open road.
Have you had a chance to test drive both?

Hi globalgregors, i have seated in it, but not driving until now. I will take an appointment at the dealer for september, i don’t know which version they have for testing….

I reckon they’re pretty similar at low speeds, somewhat different on a highway. Enjoy your drive!

I find them pretty similar across the legal speed limits in the UK. You just feel the torque down low in the diesel right off the get go.

The important thing is to drive a few, every single one is different in how they feel. Road noise, rattles, comfort, lean to, the steering, the brakes .. I am yet to find two that were exactly the same ( having said that, note that I have entirely focused on 2nd hand ones, between 10k to 15k miles, trialmasters ).

I drive a QM petrol at almost 3.000kg with dog, stuff and driver between 10.8 min and 13.5 max l / 100 km (without towing). Entirely possible when driving gently, of course depending on individual driving profile. Diesel is more fuel efficient and does have greater range but has much less load capacity, for many a point to consider.

The diesel needs a throttle response controller to feel lively. But if you like chugging it's OK.
I used one for a week when my petrol was being serviced.
The petrol+throttle controller is mighty fun to drive!

Can you expand on the 'much less load capacity' bit ?

I think the difference pretty exactly comes down to the difference of B57/B58 engine weights.

If that’s an important consideration for you then so be it. It didn’t enter into my considerations but is important to some. 👍🏼

Diesel is 75kg heavier than the petrol engined grenadier. Difference in ZF transmission may account for some of this.
