Despite 2yrs of my handsfree being unusable there still doesn't seem to be any confirmation from Ineos that this is a known fault, especially when many others have complained about it.

I would like to request recognition that this is an issue and a plan for resolution

One part of the bad sound quality for the people on the other end of a phone call is, that the Background noise from engine, vibration, and so on travels directly through every hard parts and plastics. There ist no barrier between the mics and the Rest of the body. In addition, they are Set Back a little from the Opening in the panel and pointed straight down, Not at the driver.
A little improvement is to let the mics Hang Out of the roof panel. Background noise is noticeably less loud than before. A little bit Like rebalancing the Sound-Levels of an equilizer. Maybe not looking nice, but hey...
There is even a Bosch Car Service in Germany, selling Hand-Made, fitting adapter-cables to reposition the two mics. E.g. left and right of the rear View mirror.
Do they sell these adapter cables online. If they are available then I would give them a try.

Here are the Photos of the "new" positions of the mics. As I said: not pretty and no 100% fix, but noticeable improvement with reasonable effort. For 100% fix there would have to be some software noise-canceling, I think. That the mics are also used by the E-Call system, limits the options of tampering with them a bit.
The yellow marked spot would also be an option, but more visible and would need another, longer cable. Wich should not be a problem at all, since the adapter cables are made on demand with original pins and connectors and cables from 50m rolls.

The bit that perplexes me is that maybe 2/3rd of the time, sound quality if good in both directions.
What is causing this to be an intermittent problem?
I have carried out all the sound proofing around the mic' area and as suggested on this forum but with no improvements.

Valid point. I reckon it is based on the type of 📱 call. If it is a trivial conversation it is perfect throughout 👌, but if it is an urgent call it is "say again, what, say again" 🫣
