New Year Service Overdue Bug

The software on this car sucks so bad. Adas warnings all over the place and now this. Worst software of any car I’ve ever had by far.

Software isn’t that hard. Why did they have such an incompetent developer on the lead.

I have had zero issues that are any worse or better than any other brand's software. I have owned a grenadier trialmaster for 2.5 years now and have no complaints. Not sure what you're getting in USA that is so different from Australia that warrants that harsh assessment...?

Critical thing in all of this is that no vehicles have been affected to the extent that they can't perform the function they are designed for which is getting from point A to point B in a fun to drive and cool looking comfortable 4WD vehicle that is very different from anything else out there. I don't see any broken promises here from Ineos. Unlike other brands that have engine blowups, software glitches that make them un-driveable, or worse still drive themselves into oncoming traffic or into brick walls. What exactly is the fuss all about? As competent drivers what - we can't press a button and ignore a false reading? Are we that incompetent as a driver community that renders us incapable of minor adaptation to this trivial software glitch. Where is all the anger and vitriol coming from exactly? Enjoy the ride, enjoy the fun, and don't sweat the small stuff.

Erm ... not true, there have been a number of owners who experience excessive battery drain that has resulted in cars, including mine, not starting due to flat batteries, and it isn't much fun driving with the aircon blowing molton air into the cabin on 35+ degree days. But the vast majority of vehicles have achieved their primary objective, and it is a stonking good 4x4 to go off-road in, I wouldn't want to go in any other 4x4 now.

Oh, and my transfer box wouldn't disengage, so the car spent over 3 weeks off the road, as well as the navigation software not working, numerous early wrning light issues .... there is a long list of software issues discussed in a separate forum on here, and that is only being added to as latent issues come to light.

We are also supposed to be able to service our vehicles, but we can't update the service interval - broken promise, and probably a legal issue to do with restratint of trade as well. !

I also still can't access the service manual that was promised years ago ... Ineos isn't doing very well.

I spoke with my Australian service manager today (my last few days here in AU). He said Ineos had advised them not to reset the service warning just yet as they don’t yet know what caused the fault so don’t know how long the reset would last or what else it might screw up if the service people simply just reset it. Although the mechanics already had reset some local customers they won’t do any more until they get the green light or a fix from Ineos.

Double tapping the button on the end of the indicator talk doesn’t clear my message. It’s no big deal as it cycles through and alternately shows overdue date and the information I select such as average economy.

When the message is displaying, double tap it then but immediately after use the main screen to select another function- Home, Audio, Offroad etc. That will cancel the alarm and it will go back to the previous display, ave eco, adblue, range remaining etc. Then put the main screen back on the function you want.

I was talking about this particular 2026 service software glitch in particular when I mention pushing a button and ignoring the glitch, and not more generically but I take your point that some users have encountered other and bigger problems over time.

Long term reliability and recall statistics for the grenadier are not yet possible as it is too new, but having been a member of this Ineos forum and others, as well as experiencing and reading on reliability of other brands over the last 3 decades, the Ineos problems seems no better or worse than any other car brand IMHO. Many of us hoped for an electronics free vehicle that could be serviced in our own workshops, but mandatory legislation around safety / fuel / restraints etc just didn't allow that to happen which is a great shame and a more of a reflection of the nanny state society we now live in rather than a direct reflection on Ineos's broken promises. The service network I have to agree is currently pretty sparse, and the lack of easy ability to get independent or self done servicing is frustrating. Both those problems I hope will resolve over time.

Owning the Ineos is a bit of an adventure and anyone who thought they would get a chemical company owner's thought bubble invention without it having other "unique qualities" would be wrong to believe that. It is undoubtedly fun, unique, has a great community building around it, and keeps many of us entertained and amused in equal measure, and yes sometimes frustrated too. It's all part of the charm as far as I'm concerned.

On a related note getting back to this particular thread's subject matter, according to the AirTag my Grenadier has now moved from dockside to inland in the suburbs of leafy Christchurch South Island NZ. BUT I'm still in AU so still in the dark as to whether mine has the service glitch or not. Are there any stats on the greatest length of time that owners don't know whether their car has this 2026 glitch? Is there value in starting a ranking for owners who are still in the dark as to whether their vehicle is affected? Asking for a friend who might be top of such a list... lol.

80% of the time I can clear the messages that appear over the odometer area by pressing the Trip button. Occasionally I can highlight it but it won't clear. I think I found a way around it today with the current overdue messages.
If you have a message displayed that won't clear with the trip button, while the message is still displayed press the OK button (next to the Toot button). For me this moves the selection to the Home button on the infotainment area. Pressing the trip button a 2nd time shifts the highlight back to the 'stuck' message and clears it. Give it a go.

Guys, I personally have spent less than 5 minutes thinking about this warning.
I do find it funny how much time some people have to worry about it. I have too many other enjoyable things to spend my time on like my Tee Time at noon today.

I get in, when the warning appears, I hit the trip button twice and it’s gone. It takes less than a second. Ineos will get it figured out, until then I’m just going to enjoy the ride.

Just as proof of my low number here’s a photo. Naturally it’s a few days on so it went up but we often say no photo and it didn’t happen.

I’m not sure if this is common, but the alert comes up and is only on the screen for maybe 10 seconds and then goes away. A few minutes later it does the same thing without me interacting with anything.

Mine is sitting on 2362 days overdue, but to be fair I haven't had it cleared since I did the last service back in August, so there were already a few days on it.

This is just another example of how badly developed the Grenadier software is, there are numerous glitches and latent messages that crop-up out of the blue. I now have three service messages, the usual days and milage overdue, but also a 'Service in 65H', which is completely wrong, but another one of those latent bugs that has been left in the software as a result of some of the worst programming I have seen since Uni (a long time ago now). Korg said it best ''moron software developer at whatever software company that Ineos uses'', there would also be the software developer/engineer employed by Ineos in that mix, or maybe there wasn't/isn't one, which would be part of the problem !

I actually like it tracks oil life by 3 metrics. We all use the vehicle differently and may need or want a view others don’t. Most people think time or miles when it comes to oil change, like the 12 months or 12,000 miles we all know. But if you run your engine at idle for long times, that needs to be accounted for too.

That 65 hours is saying it would be due in 65 more engine hours (think like a boat or plane). But since you hit the warning for days first, you must not be driving 1000 miles a month or idling more than average because if you were, those would have triggered first.

It does get a little annoying if/when all three start to hit each startup, but there’s a reason for it.

Extreme example is I run my Grenny in idle for 12 hours a day, all while not moving from my driveway. 6 months later and I have 0 miles and 2200 engine hours, I don’t know what the hours setting is, but it would probably tell me I’m due for service because of that, not miles driven.

Mine is similar although scrolls through more frequently maybe every minute

Yes, and touching an on-screen menu button accomplishes the same.

Affection disguised in complaints. Enjoying the discourse more than disliking the issue hints at high individual emotional attachment, amplified by felt companionship with the car. Disproportionate in-group discussion nurtures bonding and strengthens community ties among owners, The defect is reframed as a character trait and morphing into a positive attribute other owners would like to have to participate in quirk-sharing for hidden social enjoyment. The higher the quirk tolerance, the deeper the affection. The quirk evolves from a non-essential into an essential attribute of the car and becomes a defining part of its personality, without which it is incomplete. Ultimately, absence of the quirk feels like unreturned love and is perceived as a defect of the car. In essence, I am happy that my car has the overdue bug, I am sorry for those who don‘t have it, I regret that the bug will only be temporary, and the responsible software programmer should get a pay raise!
