New Year Service Overdue Bug

Let us know all the lights that are presenting themselves and maybe we can help 🤷🏼‍♂️
I’ve had quite the selection along with many others and advice given here certainly assisted me to give a “directed” approach to the dealer! 😉
Meant for @ChrisRay

Steve Butterworth :

I went for a 200km drive yesterday, and I still have no service reminder, so I am still missing out, my build number is 9848, my software version is 1946 installed in February 2024, original head unit.
What is the latest software version ?, could that make a difference ?.
FWIW mine is the 2940 version

MISSING FROM THE LIST?
If people think I have missed a number send me a direct link to your post, not a page number. Or just repeat it.

The direct link can be copied from the top right of your post, the second icon from the left, next to the printer icon.

Whinging does not help me - even if I am an unpaid expendable goper (to quote the great Wednesday Addams).

Yes I have missed some posts and expect to do so going forward, especially if there is a lot of posts.

Plus I a trying to add in the German language thread as well. So some guessing there.

UPDATES ARE DONE ONCE OR TWICE A DAY (IF I AM AROUND)
I update once or twice a day, not because one person posts.

SUMMARY
168 members and an additional 3 members with no alert (4 if you include some chap in Townsville).

No change to first or last place.

DO NOTHING FOR THE MOMENT

It’s going to take a while for IA to resolve any software issues especially as we’ve seen in the past with how long it took for an ADAS upgrade. That said, it’s clear at this point almost every vehicle produced has been impacted by the service reminder bug and will need to go back to the dealer once a fix is published which is no small task.

Knowing all vehicles will have to be physically brought in by owners to be updated are we at all optimistic IA will offer a comprehensive software upgrade fixing other glitches or poorly executed functionality such as TPMS? Or, are they simply going address the service reminder ignoring other potential fixes and make us all come back in repeatedly in the future? Seems this would be their one shot to fix everything and only inconvenience us once. Wishful thinking I know!

Seem like my unit will never be updated cause there's no dealer at all in Indonesia. I have to live with "airbag error" and now "service error".

Am I right in thinking there are two distinct versions of the software? There is a different version on early builds that have the small reversing screen and different hardware? (Something to do with privacy regulations?) There was an indication that no more development would be done on the earlier version software, I wonder if this forces their hand to update it?

Not quite right. There are two primary versions - before MY24.2 and after MY24.2 - and the major difference between them is that from MY24.2 the vehicles had to include cyber encryption in the CBUS system to meet an EU mandate. The most visible difference between those versions is the larger reversing camera and the disappearing menu tabs (home, off-road, settings, etc are hidden behind the CarPlay window for instance).

However, sitting behind all that is the standard base software architecture of AUTOSAR Classic, which is provided by Bosch subsidiary ETAS. AUTOSAR Classic is used by most major manufacturers. It's a bit like Linux / Windows / Mac OS for vehicles - it is the operating system. Then each manufacturer adds its own "apps" on top.

It is not the case that no more development is being done on the pre-MY24.2 software. The underlying architecture and apps are all being maintained in parallel with the post MY24.2 versions. However, the reason why you will not see the larger reversing camera rolled back into the earlier version is cost of homologation. When the post-cyber MY24.2 software was homologated (as it had to be for a major change like adding cyber), it included that new camera feature. But to roll a change to the camera back into the pre-cyber versions, the whole lot would have to be homologated again at a cost of at least tens and maybe hundreds of thousands of Euros for the benefit of maybe 15k vehicles. Not going to happen.

But iterative app updates and bug fixes in the pre-cyber version that do not require re-homolgation will continue to be rolled out.

Happy New Year!
The glitch is alive and well in the UK; I saw it about 12:30 last night and took a photo this afternoon,(just!).

Bit late to the party, but Happy new year to all.
2188 days as of yesterday when the car was taken away to be serviced.
Interesting fact the car now being two years old I contacted the ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME as my information tells me I have two years cover.
After 12 minutes of waiting on the phone for the AA who handle the Ineos programme (UK only I guess) I enquired about the expiry date, the reply was 2050 ! could this be related to the bug?
The operator then went through the system and told me that Ineos get 3 years cover. I did ask for confirmation, but they were unable to send any.
So is it 2 or 3 years in the UK and why does the AA think I have cover till 2050. ?
Confused.
Cheers B

The AA roadside assistance is 2 years.

Thanks to those who have put all of the work into creating lists and spreadsheets of everyone's overdue dates to hypothesise an explanation. I thought it might be helpful to have a specific worked example.

My last (first) service was 13 Dec 2024, so my due date should have been set to 13 Dec 2025 and as at 1 Jan 2026 I should have been 19 days overdue. However, no alert had yet been triggered.

On 1 Jan 2026, my vehicle showed an internal date of 1 Jan 2032 and an alert for 2069 days overdue, so it had added 2050 days of overdue time. 1 Jan 2026 - 1 Jan 2032 is 2191 days, so we are out by 141.

If the vehicle was thinking that the date was 1 Jan 2032 then a count-back of 2069 indicated overdue means that the service due date must have been previously set to 2 May 2026. That doesn't tie in with any service that I had in May 2025, however my vehicle had a head unit replaced in Aug 2025 and it is perhaps possible that the "new" head unit had a previously stored date, which might also explain why I had not received an overdue alert before 1 Jan 2026.

Working the other way, 2069 days from the actual service due date of 13 Dec 2025 gets me to 12 Aug 2031, 141 days short of the indicated date on the clock when the alert popped up. There is no logic in that, so I am leaning to the explanation that the new head unit had a later date stored in it.

In sort, I can't make the math math with my vehicle, but some of you who know what your previously set due dates were, and have not had INEOS changing computers over, might have more luck in applying my calculation methodology to your vehicles.

The AA roadside assistance is 2 years.
My paperwork says two years, however.
Just been on the phone again to the assistance number (AA) and again they say it's 3 years and I am covered.
But they are unable to send any written conformation.
Cheers B

The AA roadside assistance is 2 years.

Would that be two years from actual manufacture or two years from first registration? From what I gleaned there are quite a number of ex Ineos / dealer vehicles that sat unregistered in showrooms or demonstrated on trade plates for quite some time before actual registration with DVLA or whatever it is called now.

I read "ownership" on the IA website.

I feel that maybe you should be updating this list each day to show the current displayed value, since given that people have been added to the list over several days the relative values will be incorrect (unless of course you are backdating reported values to be correct for 01/01/2026)! 🤣

(I am of course joking - to do so would be pointless and time-consuming). ;)
