Need advice for a second car

Boy, you and I are on completely different planets!!! 😂

But in all seriousness I do agree with you in this instance. I just otherwise have a vehicle hoarding issue.
I'm all for keeping vehicles, we probably wouldn't have sold any over the years had we the room.
Sadly, and it was real tears from the wife, but we sold her Cayman which she had owned for 13 years with full Porsche service history, and her Fiat 850 Spider of 15 years. It was decided they weren't being used enough and I couldn't get out of them, and sometimes in anymore.
She has a Crosstrek for everyday. We used to joke we had a car every type of use.

I need to replace the second car and really don’t know what to get. I need an SUV and am super picky, I really don’t like most of the current SUVs — to me they look like minivans. My car history over the last 15 years or so — LR Disco 1 & 2s — loved them to pieces but ultimately grew tired of it being so needy. Then got an older LR3, not bc I loved it but bc I was hoping it would make me miss my Discos less (didn’t work). LR3 is what I have now and it’s just getting too run down.

I don’t think these have the best history but the only 2 cars that I’m a little drawn to are a Jeep (love boxy-ness) and the Bronco. Yesterday I just came across the Bronco Heritage for the first time and fell in love a little — reminds me of old Intl Scouts or old Broncos. So retro.

I haven’t driven either btw. But before I drive anything I wanted to ask if anyone had any opinions about the above cars or had other ideas. I don’t want a new car. I don’t want to spend a ton of money bc would rather put $ into the Grenadier. Thinking a model 2020 up to now, with lower mileage. I’ve seen those “buy back” cars at times for decent prices but realllly unsure if that’s a great idea. Any thoughts…?
As always, we get off topic quite quickly!!
Being form UK, I'm not sure what vehicles you have over there.
A large boxy estate car, not quite the 4x4 look but some do come with 4 wheel drive systems and a slightly raised suspension, something like a Subaru Forester?
Other options on the estate cars are the fast options from Audi, BMW, Mercedes or some other European and American brands.

If this isn't your thing, a pick-up but not your full size things that we don't get over here, more a Toyota Hi-Lux twin cab? I'm guessing you are after something cheaper than the Grenadier so not a Quartermaster. If you want the covered area you can get a fixed rear canopy for the Hi-Lux. Otherwise just get the small Landcruiser if you want a proper full cab area.
After that, my advice is just use and enjoy the Grenadier

Certainly not as robust as a Gren, but we love our Subaru Outback wagon. Well equipped, rides great, good gas mileage, roomy enough for two dogs and lots of gear and we’ve had no issues over 70,000 miles bar one known gremlin with the amplifier.

Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK2, 2010–2021), Summit/all options = highly comfortable + very capable in all wheather conditions. Only headache in ten years of ownership was missing Europe navigation update. We would have kept it forever, if my dog had not refused to stop growing.

Do you get Suzuki Jimny's in the US?

I have always found them quite fun to drive - a bit like a more sophisticated 4WD Beach Buggy. They fit into downtown multi-storey car parks if you are heading into town unlike a Grenadier. They are different enough from a Grenadier to provide a bit of driving variety.

sued them out of the country.

This may be her little social experiment in, "men don't really hear a word a woman says". What part of super picky and not liking modern SUV's don't you 'tards understand?

My son keeps his ‘22 Crosstrek manual at our house. I’m obligated to exercise it occasionally. It is a super fun vehicle - no too small, awd, 6spd.

Sometimes I wonder what it would like to limit myself to only a 2nd car :ROFLMAO:

I would pair the Grenny with something smaller and more nimble. I like the contrast and it scratches a different itch.

Broncos and Jeeps are so close to the Grenadier in terms of driving dynamics, road noise, and appearance that I don't really see the point of getting one of those when you can just drive the Grenadier. If you want something for around town and good for city driving, then you want something dependable with good road manners (comparatively). I'd point you towards a Toyota 4 Runner or even Rivian's SUV.

Why can't you use the Grenadier every day?
Grenadier is my main vehicle for long trips but have a little car for local 1-2 mile trips (Abarth 595c), I'm really racking the miles up on it🤣
I can see the point of second vehicle but not buying a different version of the same thing.
I should’ve clarified up front… the reason I’m not using MY dream car as my daily driver is bc my hubby has adopted the G as his dream car!

The irony is thick — I’ve always been obsessed with the old Discos and the Defender. He never was into either at all. Then we rented a G a couple years ago in Montana, and for the first time in his life he fell in *love* with a car. Such a turd!

Since I work from home and he has to drive to work, I’m totally cool with him using the G daily bc he loves it and it makes him happy.

Soooo I’m driving the LR3 but it’s time for something newer. The reason I specifically want an SUV is because I need it for my hardware store addiction hauls 🤓.

Similar situation finding a new vehicle for my wife. New Defender 90 and baby LC are in the mix. Maybe a Bronco (but I avoid Ford/GM/Stellantis like my ice depends on it). We could even surprise ourselves and get a Slate…

All the more reason to buy a titchy sports car - if it don't fit, you cannot buy it!

(I know my wife is after something specific if I am told to use the Grenadier to take us to an antique fair. Little sports cars = targets of opportunity, like silver and jewellery).
