just read the letter from Lynn again which you shared June 3rd and I have to say that I was really optimistic
when we got her response.
6 weeks later, where are we ?
What about "better communication should be the easy point" or "having live Q&A sessions" ?

I see this thread drifting in different directions like "bigger cup holders" or "apple car play".
Why are we doing this ?

I x fingers you get some meaningful feedback from IA soon but I don't believe in it anymore.

Not sitting smug in either vehicle, as I agree, a certain amount of masochism is to be experienced dealing with both brands but it’s the challenges which keeps life interesting.

My two topics are indeed covered in the 'letter', but for the record -

I am a Grenadier owner in Montana enjoying the best vehicle I have ever parked in my garage. I held an early pre-order and completed the purchase straight-away. Because I live 700 miles from my dealer, I had them keep the car until the tow package issue was resolved. I could not see putting 2100 miles on my car just to get the tow electronics fixed.

I bought the Grenadier knowing that I can maintain a vehicle to a reasonable extent. Of course, I was expecting a workshop manual, too. Because of my location, I cannot visit my dealer for every little thing.

Questions -

1) Service manual / Shop manual
Where is the service manual / shop manual? What are the release plans for the Grenadier service manual?


2) OBD tools
Will Ineos please recommend the best available OBD diagnostics tool(s)? May I purchase the Ineos factory diagnostics tool? I want the full-on factory, dealer-shop laptop/software/ID credentialed package. Please, may I buy this from Ineos Automotive?

So I just had my ADAS software update…Will see how it goes but…

I had an update awhile back where I had the ability to change distance to km. After the ADAS update that is now gone! I can change all the other items but Distance is now not an option…this needs to be fixed! Not sure why it was removed…INEOS needs to overhaul their software team

Distance units toggle is a BIG, BIG deal for me, too. I drive to Canada from Montana periodically and I cannot set distance units to kilometers. This is just plain nonsense.

Perhaps if contacting IA you could ask if we could have a rational, repeatable, and controllable way to play MP3 tracks on USB in a manageable order, perhaps alphnumerically by title, or even something as wild as in the order of the track numbers? It really isn't possible to do this at present, and the unpredictable randomness is tiresome. On a vehicle as expensive as the Grenadier, it really is poor that the only way to play an album with tracks in the right (or even a predictable) order is to do it from a smartphone.

I need to spend more time in this forum. I'm overjoyed to discover that I am not the only one.

n) Shuffle toggle is broken
My preferred music source in the Grenadier is folder organized MP3 files on a data stick via USB A. I can instruct the car to play a folder (album) and all the songs in it. However, when I turn the car off one of two things will happen -
a) the last song played will resume properly, but the next track is a random selection (shuffle)
b) the last song played is forgotten and it plays a random selection (shuffle)
Yes, I've set shuffle to inactive. In other words, shuffle reverts to functionally active when I turn off the car. This means I must revisit the menu much more than should be needed. I think this is a bug; shuffle toggle is broken.

I'll wager it doesn't play the folder contents in a predictable order even when not on shuffle.

That doesn’t seem right seeing that the countries north and south of you use the metric system. I regularly go across to the European mainland and can toggle between the metric and imperial units.

Hopefully with the scan tool or software updates TPMS and Service Reset will be address. Changed oil in my 2023 Defender X yesterday and the process to reset the service reminder is to:

1. Unlatch hood
2. Change the oil
3. Sit in vehicle door closed ignition on
4. Step on Brake and Accelerator pedal fully
5. System resets and acknowledges on the instrument panel
6. Turn of ignition and get on with your life (less than 30 seconds to complete the service reset)

Likely process for my Grenadier:

1. Drive for 7 months with service reminder flashing at you because the reminder was set to vehicle production date not date vehicle was purchased brand new
2. Schedule with dealer weeks out
3. Take a day off work
4. Drive 2 hours to dealer
5. Windshield gets chipped on the way to dealer
6. Wait at dealer for several hours (or eat at a crappy fast food restaurant nearby and end up with stomach pains and tons of regret)
7. Vehicle gets sorted then find out more trips to back to dealer are needed due to door button recall, and in my case, another days worth of software updates which won’t address the service reset or TPMS issues both of which require more dealer visits to deal with
8. Get vehicle back and prepare for drive home but first a visit to the loo to deal with the lunch distress
9. Drive back 3 hours now you are dealing with rush hour traffic
10. Receive another chip and crack to the windshield necessitating another trip back to the dealer
11. Try to catch up on voicemail and emails from missed day from work
12. Get home exhausted and frustrated that you have to repeat the process for the same issues and additional hassle for being ambitious enough to service and change your own oil (time required 8+ hours, 200 miles of driving, tank of fuel, stress, missed day of income, bottle of Pepto, new pair of underpants due to poisonous lunch and $2,000 broken windshield)

Not complaining as I love my Grenadier but just drawing a light hearted comparison between the two for maintenance.

In the nearly two years of ownership I have always had something broken, requires fixing, making a noise, HVAC leaking (or just not working) - my door locks that were replaced under the recall, well the new ones stick as well. Fun times.

In a sense, I would prefer this car to come as a barebones model, without those unnecessary sensors or various functions.

Manual windows, no central locking both fine.

Already 20+ years into the 21st century and factories, specifically European prestige factories could not get the car A/C right. Really makes me wonder.

Having experienced some "sticky" door buttons about 6m into ownership18m ago, (VIN 20XX), I've since been giving the door buttons and locks a small squirt of "3in1" ptfe "dry lubricant" every 3 months and a thin film of white grease on the "U" latch/door keep.. Haven't had an issue since.
Last week I did an interstate trip Sydney to Brisbane via the Pacific Hwy. 907km in 9hr 30min actual driving time, 11hr 30min elapsed time. After 18km though the northern suburbs of Sydney I got on the expressway on-ramp. As I accelerated initially to 100kmh then 110kmh the engine oil temp sat on 104degC, the auto transmission and tf case were 40-50 centigrade degrees cooler. As the road gradient eased to a long descent, the engine oil temp dropped to 103 then 102. About 10-15 km further along, so say 30-40 km after initial start (ambient temp about 10 deg C) the oil temp dropped quickly to 93 deg C then varied between to 91-93 for the remainder of the trip. I'm assuming the temp. drop after 30-40km signalled the opening of one or both thermostats.
Secondly, the aircon (set at 22 deg C) finally settled after 40km and while warm air came from all front vents, cool air emanated from the vertical ends of the dashboard towards the doors.
I've had a love- hate relationship with the HVAC. This trip it finally seemed to act properly with no clouding of the windscreen.... I'll leave it as it..

That oil temp pattern is exactly what I see when a DPF regeneration cycle is occurring. My normal oil temp is 92-93c. When the regen starts I hear the auxiliary cooling fan start, usually corresponding to about 98c oil temp. During a regen additional fuel is injected to increase the exhaust temperature. This raises the oil (and coolant) temps hence the rise in displayed oil temperature. My oil temperature during regen is about 102-104c.

I also discovered on a recent foggy wet road run that demist with AC air that comes out of the side defog outlets that point at the windows is always cold regardless of the temperature setting on the HVAC dial. That's different to most cars where the defog air is dried by the AC and blended to the same temp as cabin air. It's a weird sensation having warm air blowing out the centre and outside vents but cold air coming out the defog outlets. I was trying to work out where the cold breeze was coming from until I played around with the HVAC and front demist functions together.

I did not make it through all 44 pages (yet), but within the first 20 pages or so, I found Lynn's response and one post of particular interest after that. I'm looking for confirmation or comments regarding two items.

1) From Lynn Calder's letter, at the bottom of page one, I see "37 ECUs and ..."

1) Do I take this to mean that my Grenadier has 37 ECUs?

After that, someone pointed out that the workshop manual may have diminished value without a diagnostics tool that is fully fluent in Grenadier. I'll go back and find that post and offer a thumbs up.

Previously, I bought a new diagnostics tool for the Grenadier, but returned it after a very disappointing experience. Think talking to a brick wall. Yes, Ineos has received my request for access to the online manuals. I've also seen the workshop manual teaser. A diagnostic tool is critical. Later info reported on the forum is that Ineos is having discussions with Autel to explore the feasibility of releasing an Ineos-specific diagnostic device.
