Let's get some perspective: Is your Grenadier AC working as it should?

Who else's AC is batsh1t crazy and randomly blows hot air one day and cold the next on the exact same setting? I don't think the AC system got the attention it deserved during the 1.2 million miles of road testing, that's for sure. I love my new truck but it's the one thing that drives me nuts on pretty much a daily basis as I fiddle away at the controls and I'm surprised Ineos haven't found a fix for it yet. I gather it's down to sticky solenoid valves or such like and is probably an expensive warranty concern for them.

It would be useful to set up a poll on this forum and get an idea of what percentage and numbers of owners here have flaky AC. This forum must represent a decent amount of the Grenadier owner population, perhaps it would help sharpen Ineos' perspective on the issue if it popped up on every Google search relating to Grenadier AC issues. I don't have the ability to raise a forum poll but maybe @Stu_Barnes would consider it a worthy exercise

So I've noticed a new noise that I don't recall hearing before. When I start the vehicle now, there is a noise coming from the dash area as if some gas or liquid is pressurizing. Guessing it's HVAC related. Any ideas?

For me this indicated a leak in the freon and subsequently low charge level leading to "cool" at best air from the AC

I am in Texas and I’ve used my AC several times and it works perfect

Perfectly? I'm in Frisco TX and can tell you it does not stand up between noon and 6pm when its 95°+, which is the norm June-Sept. I've been into Sewell INEOS twice already and they agree it was not optimized for our heat. It was build for the European market which does not have AC like American cars. I'm talking from first hand experience driving many cars in Italy both new and older. And BTW my car is Scottish White with Ceramic tint. The Grenadier AC does not compare to my wife's '22 Wagoneer.

My car cam in early 4 months,~10/14/24. It was given all the fixes at the time that were ready at the factory. The truck has been totally trouble free. My only issue is the switches on the roof for roof lighting. Could be something out of place. When the car is a year, the Dealer can look into it. The Houston heat is also repressive, humidity levels can be unbearable. A few years I remember switching shirts about 7X in a row. However the air conditioning has been cold to the point I get frost on the bottom of the windshield. I set it on 68-72 degrees.

Since the AC system recharge in late Aug. 2024 [post #40 this thread] I've had zero issues. AUTO works fine, all vents work as they should, albeit the MaxFan noise appears now and then for no reason. Heat is good after the car is warm, it takes about 6 minutes to blow warm air between 30º - 60ºF (-1C to 15C), about 8-10 minutes if less than 30ºF. I follow the recommended "start up" sequence: turn key to on, wait for the computer to boot past the splash screen, turn the ignition on. Drive away.

With all the cold temps recently, has anyone experienced anything like this... On a road trip, heat is on (not using auto) but randomly you get a burst of cold air from outside the vehicle? Like the vent door shifted without you doing anything to cause it?
100% I get this. I reached out to the dealer because I thought the weather stripping was failing again. I'll get a cold blast of air in the footwell almost like the door is open. I tested the stripping and it's fine, but I have not been able to figure this out.

I occasionally have an issue where the Grenadier will switch from recirculating to fresh air. This is most noticeable at highway speeds with the fan on low, suddenly the amount of air coming from the vents will increase, even the recirculating button is still lit. If I turn it to fresh the airflow stays the same. If I then turn it back to recirculating, the airflow decreases again. It's like the selector valve just gives up and changes back to fresh.

when in first turn the fan on, regardless of the vent control setting, I get straight exterior air through the dash vents.

I will add that no recurrence of previous HVAC weirdness since rework at the dealer annual service (12k service done at 8k).

Exact same here. Dealership took a look and "could not duplicate".

So, I got my Grenadier back from service last week and they finally found something. I had a hissing sound that sounded like something was pressurizing. This is what they found.

Mine takes a few seconds to wake up the cooling. Also on auto the heat doesn't get hot enough. And I have the butterfly fogging on the windshield on auto.

Check coolant on cold engine in the morning. Top both tanks up to max. This will solve all the above issues 100%. Done this, heat should get hot in 6 mins, no fogging, no condensation leaks on footwell.

Just two days ago after a long drive from DC to North Carolina, I turned it on the next morning to realize the climate control system was completely inoperable: No AC, no heat, no air movement at all. The drive back to DC would have been brutal if not for the safari windows, so that's a silver lining. Service scheduled this coming week, hopefully it's not too serious.

I was having intermittent problems with my A/C. Occasionally, it would only blow afterburner level heat when not on Auto, no matter the temperature selected on the knob. and occasionally, even Auto mode would blow hot, enormously frustrating! Thanks to previous posters, I checked the two coolant tanks, and discovered I was a bit low on coolant. Filling to the proper levels has seemed to solve my issue. So, just wanted to comment here for anyone who's having AC issues: check your coolant levels on both the right and left sides.

And thanks to those who suggested this remedy: it might even be worth a sticky in the top of the forums, because it seems to be a regular "quirky feature" that many people are suffering from without an obvious remedy in the manual.

I had the same - multiple dealer trips over a year+ and no better. Then skydance on this forum suggested to check this and it was low on one side. I had my dealer fill it. Finally fixed. Been over a week now and the AC now works perfectly.

One anomaly I find a a regular basis - a given temp dial setting does not result in the same output temperature every day. So if 9 o’clock on the temp dial puts out 68F today, tomorrow when it’s colder/warmer, 68F will be at a different dial point.

In addition, on cooler days that you still want AC, the point on the temp dial between AC and Heat also shifts all over the place. And this transition point is very abrupt.

I’ve never had a vehicle that reacts so strangely to ambient. What does it use for a baseline?

Most likely the result of the cabin temperature probe being in a location that can be easily affected by gradients such as when the sun is shining on onesidd, cabin air circulation, etc. Not sure where the cabin sensor is located. Ideally there would be more than one with a blending algorithm
