I lust for a QM and I have questions; spare tire relocate, fuel cans, etc

Hey there! I've been lurking for a bit, joined, and introduced myself yesterday.

I'm on the hunt for a Quartmaster for my do-all vehicle and I'm hoping some of you owners can lend some insight on what appears to be a sweet truck. I head down to my local dealer today (RTGT INEOS) to crawl around one and get behind the wheel, so I expect many of my other questions will be answered then.

In the meantime, if you'll be so good as to humor me.

Relocating spare tire. I know this truck is only really hitting the market this year and the aftermarket is catching up. One of my intended uses is hauling two dirt bikes in the bed and relocating the spare tire would make that a much easier proposition. I'm coming off a Chevy Silverado, so I'll lose a bit of width and length, though in comparing the bed dimensions to another truck I owned - a Chevy Colorado - the space should be adequate. Aside from affixing a roof rack and securing the spare up top, has anyone in the aftermarket put forth a spare tire carrier that bolts the bedside?

Speed warning. I know this has been evergreen content and it's been mentioned in nearly every YouTube video I watched. I've read of a forthcoming software fix. A search here didn't yield much. Is the fix inbound or confirmed?

Bed tie-down options. The truck I'm viewing today looks to have some provisions for tie-down points in the bed. I'm curious about adding more track, aka airline track, L-track, o-track, so I can haul two bikes easily. Ideally, I'd like to affix tracking along the interior of the bed, and along the tops of the bed rails. I see in press photos that there are fastener covers throughout; are those suitable for affixing O-track? Any other clever attachment points?

And lastly, hauling additional fuel. The range on these trucks and wagons is discussed often and it's top of mind for me, especially when towing my 6x10 trailer. For the times when the bed is free; that's easy to haul additional fuel cans. But when the bed is doing its job and full of fun things; how are you carrying additional fuel cans? A roof rack is certainly an option, if a bit cumbersome to load and unload. Are molle panels with Rotopax canisters on the doors the only other option?

Thanks for the help with these things. I'm stoked at the idea of this truck and what it can do for me. Cheers!

I had a great trip to our local INEOS dealer - RTGT INEOS. These trucks are so cool!! There’s no two ways about it. I was pleasantly surprised surprised at the test drive, which was all pavement… I know these things are exceptional once the tarmac ends, so road manners were my focus. Love it.

No further info on a spare tire relocation or bed-side brackets/utility belt for fuel can hauling. I’m sure the aftermarket will come to address this at point. If I really get in a pinch, I can always fit a short rack up top and affix the spare up there. Not ideal, but it will work.

The interior upper bed rails have 8-inch-on-center plastic pop rivets, so I’m reasonably sure that some O-track will fit up there without much fuss. My concern is that underlying plastic trim piece has recesses for these plastic pop rivets, so I’d need to figure out some sort of shim under the O-track to it sits flush with the trim.

Oh, and our favorite bit of content; the speed warning. The dealer confirmed that a fix is coming, but only for the US. And allegedly, as soon as next month.

I'll answer best I can using my QM

l track: have it on the bed and on the side. The dealer installed it for me. Used it today to pick up my wife's electric cargo bike. Needed to put the bike sideways to fit. The bicycle is basically 70 inches.

Bumper: If I remember correctly Dissent is working on a rear cargo bumper for wheel and Jerry cans. LRA already has one.

Fuel tank, LRA has indicated that they are working on one specifically for the QM. Because of the extra length, it will be larger than the SW.

Let me know if you have more questions

Adas speed warning fix has been selectively deployed as a beta in North America on certain vehicles. I’m told it could be approved for wide-spread deployment by dealers in the next 2 weeks if there are no major issues that arise from the beta test group.

You should not worry about this, it will be addressed as per Lynn C.

You can certainly haul as much fuel as you like in the rear of the QM. I’m not sure why that would be a concern in North America though. Access to fuel is abundant. There is no such thing as The Canning Stock Route in America. Some stretches in the NWT/Alaska/Labrador are long but nothing really to be concerned about if you throw a few plastic jugs in the back :)

Most excellent. Thank you. If you happen to snap pictures of the rails when you have a chance, that would be helpful. RE: bikes, or motorbikes in my case, it will need to be a tailgate-down affair. The biggest thing I still need to figure out is mounting for a D-ring or similar on the bed floor, up against the bedside, near the cab or up on the bedrail, below the window. I think there are options, albeit a bit DIY.

I'll give Dissent and LRA a look. A rear bumper tire and fuel carrier would be sweet for camping trips.

Unrelated; I see that you're up in Washington. I assume in the Puget Sound somewhere? I'm down in Vancouver.

Oooh, that's great news about the speed warning. Thank you for the update.

As for the range anxiety, I hear similar responses to yours frequently. And you're not wrong. For most driving on major roads and highways, it's not an issue. But out west here, we are close to some of the most remote areas in North America and the ability to traverse those areas, off-road, without major detours of both time and distance, would be a nice bonus. After all, I intend this truck to get way out in the middle of nowhere. And once the camping gear and RTT are piled in the bed, space for fuel becomes an issue. So it seems like some Rotopax racks on the Utility Belts will be the move.

My other use case that's informing my range anxiety is towing through remote stretches. While early reports are showing only a few miles per gallon drop in fuel consumption, having that little extra is a welcome luxury. But like you said; pile some fuel cans in the bed for that scenario.

Here you go and I included what I use for the L track, 5500 break point.

You're a scholar and a gentleman. Thank you.

Heck, I can pick up that O-track from my local hardware store. They have plenty of tie-down options, too. Looks to be the same as what I installed in my moto trailer.

On your bed rails track, it looks like you added additional mounting holes at the ends. Was that done by you or is INEOS selling tracks pre-drilled with the extra holes?

Those were already in the bed when I picked up my QM. Yours should have them too. The L track came from dealer and I believe it is pre drilled for the Grenadier. Someone else added L track and had to drill to make it work.

The truck I'm looking at is '24 and doesn't have the bedside rails installed, unfortunately. Though drilling and countersinking a new hole shouldn't be too much effort.
