The redesign COULD be due to the phase out of r134a refrigerant? I think 2026 is the year that has to use the new standard?

If someone this is happening to can check to see if their AC compressor is not spinning, that would be a sign that this is the culprit. Every vehicle I'm aware of is designed to stop the compressor spinning when it's out of refrigerant as refrigerant is what lubricates the compressor.

If it is, then run to the auto parts store, grab a cheapo can of refrigerant, and charge it up to see if it works again. If it does (assuming the leak is slow and not a giant hole somewhere), then you know what's up.

This all, of course, applies to someone who lives a decent distance from a dealer. If you are right near one, it's their problem.

The proper way to do this would be to run down to the local pep boys or similar and have them evacuate your hvac. They can tell how much refrigerant they removed. Then they would hold the system under vacuum to test for leaks. If it doesn’t hold vacuum, you have a leak. Then refill with appropriate amount of refrigerant and you’re good to go. If there is a leak they can add uv dye to find it.

This way you know exactly how much you had vs how much you should have.

Not sure why, but I just bought the HVAC system from a wrecked Grenadier. It's from a 2023 RHD diesel model. Obviously missing the blower motor, but all the valves and flaps are present. It's not very complicated.
Will make a video about it very soon. I want to study its habits first...

Start a thread and post pics when you dig into it. I’m curious of the flap actuators could be replaced with cable actuators.
