High Temperature Coolant Reservoir Failure

What evidence can you see @DenisM? Is it losing pressure also?

I wiped off what I believe was white cyano adhesive powder residue from both my reservoirs maybe six months ago and it hasn't returned. I've seen similar pics posted with that same white residue so assumed it's a leftover from manufacturing.
I have had that white residue on both reservoir seams for the last 14000 miles, with no issues, I thought it was common on BMWs!

Have same white ring around my tanks, certainly not as bad as image in previous post here but strong smell of coolant under bonnet after driving. Mentioned it to the agent here and they'll take a look when handles are replacing in a few weeks.

Is there any particular coolant you guys recommend?
I don't have the problem but i figure i'll put a bit of coolant with my recovery gear if i go for a long trip.

any special procedure is just dump it in?

I use the BMW recommended concentrate with distilled water. You can do a premix before you head out.

You can find it on FCPEuro Genuine BMW 82141467704

I agree, not hard. But when you go to a supplier and say, you got to eat everyone you ever made for us as they were not made right....yikes. Half million dollar loss, not huge in the grand scheme...but still.

Hi folks, I also had a failure at the seam weld on my High Temp tank right off the showroom floor. Had it replaced under warranty, and then the water pump started weeping, likely due to improper coolant bleeding procedure.

That all said, I've been quite motivated to fix the classic BMW plastics issue on the engine as I accrue miles on my Grenny. I've been referencing BMW and Toyota A90 GR Supra owners/enthusiasts and learned a mountain of info that's quite helpful and reassuring that the problems can be managed over time.

Regarding, the coolant tanks: I'm currently talking to AlliSport in the UK, they've been in the business of Land Rover and similar fluid tanks for quite some time and have been upgrading plastic reservoirs with their proven aluminum tanks.

I'll keep folks updated as the project progresses. Currently I have Qty: 2 OEM Ineos coolant tanks (Hi & Low temp, respectively) on their way to them to conduct R&D on aluminum replacements.

They're also working on a slight update to the ZF plastic power steering reservoir that won't leak or have a split failure mode (similar unit)

I would certainly replace my plastic coolant tanks (hi and low temp) with aluminum if they were available.

Absolutely 💯. The experience as my first leak on my Grenny has motivated me to dive into the plastics mitigation project as I intend to keep this vehicle as long as I can and self-service it away from the dealership as much as possible.

I saw that Graham Jackson of Overland Passage/Overland Glovebox Guide has installed several AlliSport components/tanks on his Landy’s over the years and those are expedition grade vehicles. So decided to send AlliSport an email and they’re quite responsive. Keen on the Defender-to-Grenadier heritage as well. I mentioned to them there’s quite a market brewing for upgraded Grenadier fluid reservoirs.

Given my engineering/operations background and aerospace/automotive time sprinkled throughout my career I knew with the right fabricator we can make this work! Will keep folks updated.

I am personal friends with Graham Jackson and he does not cut corners with his builds. If he uses Allisport products that is all the endorsement I need.

If they are failing on brand new engines, the manufacturer needs to be held accountable, that's ridiculous. Both of mine were replaced, but if its the same junk...why keep warranty them out? What a waste.
