Front Drive Shaft Update

I'd want some of my stuff like side panels, the grenadier USA parts, my strobes/aux lights, etc all back. If I can harvest spare parts that are still good then those too.
I don't have anywhere to put a husk though. If I did making an electric grenny for short distance stuff would be a project that kicks butt

I'd love to get the front axle housing assuming it's a locker variant. I'd like something I can use as a core to cut and turn to see if it's possible.

Seen nothing on insta, bluesky, Reddit, nor my mastodon. If you're referring to twitter I haven't used that since it became a racist hellhole. Social media isn't a good way to learn about stuff like that; algorithms tune feeds to people differently.

This really isn't talked about much outside niche forums. And like I mentioned in my opening post, I passed over this site initially due to the intrusive adverts and it not being very disability friendly. I'm only here because someone commented on my Reddit post and once I had the specific search terms found this forum thread.

There's not a recall for the driveshaft in general; it's not a common enough vehicle to make the news when something happens; lift kits are an extremely common thing for off road vehicles; the owl kit isn't some fly by night six random letter Amazon name; it was sold to me by a dealer, which in my state has a certain level of requirement that a vehicle be generally safe to drive.

Without having seen something specific I wouldn't have an indicator to go looking at the lift kit with extra scrutiny.


Frankly, the accusation is insulting. You're posting on a niche forum with obvious knowledge already of the issue.

For example searching "grenadier driveshaft" on most platforms returns Zilch or doesn't stand out
For example
Bluesky: no results
Insta: in the top 50 results one thing actually seems to be related, but the video only slows an upgraded driveshaft spinning to music and in the fine print description does it mention supporting lifts over a certain size. This wouldn't have shown in my feed, and wouldn't have been an obvious indicator as the primary post content makes no mention.
Reddit: Reddit threads aren't very active on the subject unless something happens, and in the few months I've owned this vehicle it hasnt happened. There has been one other post I can find in search results (again, algorithm wanting "relevance") that mentions the driveshaft besides mine and the mention is buried in the comments and the explanation is "Google it."
Mastodon: fediverse, so it doesn't have content related to things like this unless I federated specifically with a car instance or follow someone who talks about it.

Insurance says they'll have an adjuster there tomorrow so it's up in the air. If they total it and it's available for parting we might be able to work something out. I've never had to total a car before and this insurance is the first time I've made a claim with them, so I'm not sure what to expect especially with the holiday.

In other news, some of the photos from today; some are new some are just better quality than the earlier ones since we had the shop lights.

Not sure i found the correct comments you made but here goes;
I don't use any other social media things so have no idea of your expectations of this site, we have a few oddballs that you need to tune into but most/all are good people. Obviously people are wary of new posts claiming certain things but some respond better than others.
What i don't understand about some of your comments about this site is the adverts, I have seen none other than the link to the forum store? Also, what do you mean about not being disabled friendly?

For discussions sake, let’s say IA issues a recall. Besides basically redesigning and replacing the entire driveline, what’s a realistic solution other than that? If they are really forced to re-engineer and update every truck on the road I’d image they’d be in financial ruin and close shop.

Replacing driveline is not going to happen. They will file for bankruptcy protection and that will be the end of IA. I guess we're just screwed.

Exactly. So can a financially viable solution be found becomes the real question. I don’t know squat about this stuff so I’m interested to see what options may potentially be available.

This is my "solution": weekly dive under the vehicle to check CV boots and two spare Teraflex CVs, and the tools to install them on board.

Surely the moment someone gets hurt, this isn't a viable solution for the entire Grenadier fleet ?

W.r.t finding a solution, it will need to come from IA and they would be well with in their rights to refuse anyone with a lift, modified drive line etc. but for a car that is on the road as they shipped it - there is no way they can claim any sort of protection at the cost of risk to human life off the back of their design.

It is not the way the law works; as Ford found out with the Pinto, it was conciously deciding to risk owner's lives and then to cover up their internal findings that caused them the legal issue, not the issue of "poor design" itself.

The incidence of failures without lifts is probably barely or not statistically significant, (as there are other likely failure modes other than "poor design"), so there is unlikely to be any pressure from the authorities. If IA makes warranty fixes for all unlifted vehicle driveshaft failures, that kicks the can down the road for 5 years.

Now, finding an engineered solution would be a good marketing move, but don't put any faith into the federal/UK/EU regulators.
